My chin has been loosing a lot of weight. I took her in this past Friday her weight 484 grs. The doctor checked her teeth didn't find any spurs. He asked if she is eating I said she is always eating when I'm in the chin room. She is with a cage mate since I had her about 4 or 5 years ago. She eats her treats and chews on apple sticks. I told him I switched feed maybe that is the cause. I started to switch feed back in February and just finished the transistion a month ago. She had a lot of poop while we were there and he said that is normal consistency. He said we can go more aggressive if she keeps loosing weight. I weighed her Monday morning now she is at 458 grs. Went back to the doctor to have blood work and fecal test done. I missed his call last night. His message said fecal test was negative for parasites. Then he was going on about the blood test. He said maybe she has an infection to give her baytril. The office is closed today so I need to know how much baytril to give her. By the way I weighed her last night she is down to 440 grs.

Without it being a confirmed infection, I'd be hesitant to give Baytril as that's a pretty heavy-duty anti-b.

Did the chin get head x-rays and a actual oral exam under gas? I would not use baytril willy nilly not knowing what part of the body had the infection-head, gut, lung, blood etc, without a diagnosis, if there was a "guess" I would use TMS.

Ditto what Dawn said. If you're already dealing with weight loss, the last antibiotic I would use is Baytril. Trimethoprim sulfa is a broad spectrum antibiotic and it is a heck of a lot easier on their stomachs. It usually comes in cherry flavor and they think it's a treat.

Do you have CC to hand feed until you can figure out what's going on?

We are going to do x-rays after the blood and fecal tests came back. The doctor's office is closed on Wednesdays. No oral exam under gas. I do have CC but she is eating. I will give her CC also.
