The other night I was going to sleep and my chinchilla made this loud squeaking sound over and over and then would pause and do it again. I have my two dogs that sleep with me and they get up ans walk around sometimes and I was wondering if this is what disturbed her? She only will do this at night. This is called barking, yes?

Yes, it is called barking. It's hard telling what caused it. Sometimes my chins will do it for no reason that I can find.

What are the chances of hearing her make this noise in the day time or early evening? Everytime I have heard it, it has been later at night and no one else in my family has heard it. SO I guess I am asking are they known to be more "talkative" at night when they are more active? Or do they just do it when they would perfer?

Winston always does it when he wants. Sometimes in the middle of the night, in the morning. He always does it if I have been out and he didnt get to come out for a little run around. I think it means a bunch of different things...theyre just trying to communicate.

Mine usually only bark in their sleep, interestingly enough, maybe during nightmares? Scares the dickens out of me every time because I think something has gone wrong and I come pounding into their room to see them give me the stinkeye for waking them up.
It's hard to tell why.
