I'm sorry if this is the wrong section. I had a horrible experience at my vet last night. I have been seeing the same vet for almost 15 years or more. A few years ago he hired another vet, a woman. I have never been fond if her, but saw her when my regular vet was not available. After last night, unless I have an emergency, I will never see her again. I took my sick dog in. They squeezed me in. The wait was over two hours, but I waited because my dog was not eating. I was thankful they got me in. Before the appointment I had noticed a sore in my dog's mouth. She has become nippy in her old age. Last night she was out of it from being so sick, and was not biting or nippy. I told the vet about the sore during the visit. She sent a vet tech back in asking if I wanted my dog to be put under anesthesia to look at her mouth. I declined ( because she is so sick), but asked the tech if the vet might be able to look if I held my dogs mouth open. I didn't realize at this point she was behind on her rabies. Instead of just telling me no, or an explanation, she became quite vocal about the legalities of what could happen. She didn't come talk to me. She was in the vet only section of the hospital with the door closed. She was talking so loud and so angrily, it sounded like I had done something unforgivable. I heard her in the room I was waiting in, six feet away. I was mortified. She used my name as well. Other people were in the area, Im not sure if they heard or not. I went into the room in tears, until the vet tech came in. I told her I understood the situation , but was upset and angry the vet had discussed me so loudly, and where I could hear her! I was humiliated. What happened to confidentiality? I was a mess when I left. I talked to another vet tech on the way out, telling her what happened. She offered to look in my dog's mouth for me, with no problem. My dog stood there. If she had explained things to me, instead of practically yelling. I told them I had never been treated like that and would never see her again.

I called again today because my dog is still not eating well. My regular vet saw me. Apparently word of what happened got around. A vet tech apologized and said they made a note in my record. My regular vet apologized as well, and said there had been other instances and he would talk to her next week. He also said they would mark my file, about me not wanting to see her. My normal vet also looked in my dog's mouth with no problem. She made no attempt to bite. He had me hold her mouth, while he used a clamp to look. He didn't charge me for the visit or my dog's meds. I think because of the previous night's visit.

I will have to get the office staff Dunkin Donuts again for their help. I got them donuts earlier this week for taking care of my dog Monday :)

I am glad the office is taking it seriously, and hope you feel better. And i hope your old gal feels better, too.

Thanks for the support about my girl. :)

Im still shocked it happened. This same vet treats my chins as well. I had seen the female vet before with my chins. She knows her stuff, but she will never lay another hand on any animal I own. I feel bad for my regular vet, this woman works for him. My regular vet is the owner of the practice. He often gives me discounts on services because he sees my animals so often. I have never really liked her, and now I know my worries were founded.

If it wasn't for my vet of 15 years I would be gone in a heart beat.

It's probably a good thing she never came back into the room while I was upset. I would not have held back.
