ate garlic... i think

I put our chinchilla on the kitchen counter for a second while I was securing the gate that keeps him inside the kitchen and he managed to get his hands on some garlic I think (I found a garlic clove with what looks like a bite mark but no obvious bites out of it). Also, he is now sort of pawing at his mouth/throat after eating other items (cheerios, pellets). Is my chin in trouble?
