Since the pet store I usually buy my bedding at, ran out of it; I was forced to either buy this new bedding or wait and have Herby sit in a dirty cage for a week or two ( which was not happening ). I could have used fleece, but she does not like having it on her cage floor, but loves to sleep on it on her shelves or hammocks, tubes etc. Goofy chin! :clown:

Anyhow, this new bedding is aspen pellets, not chips and I love it! It has no dust what so ever, and has a pleasant smell to it and does not wreak havoc on my allergies. It also gives my living room a pleasant, woodsy aroma to it.
I was afraid, at first, that Herby would try and eat it, since it looks like her food pellets, but she sniffed it and started digging it but did not try and taste it.

It's also able to be used as compost for your garden/shrubbery/trees after it is used. So, all in all, it's a good product IMO. The only thing I have to complain about is that my pet store does not stock it in the big bags.

I have seen on here where people have said that when changing out bedding, they sometimes have allergies kick up, so I thought this would be a
good alternative for them to consider.

I use this as well and love it. It smells good, is really absorbent and I like how it doesn't get flung out all over the floor like shavings.

Most people who don't use it are concerned about the "sharp" looking edges. They aren't sharp. I've been using it for about 5 or 6 years, and never had a problem.

Not at all. I paid 6.00 dollars for the bag I have. The only problem I ran into was that they only had the medium size bag at the time, but I also use fleece, so I will not go through the bag as quick as I would without the fleece. And the other good thing about it, is that you can see the areas where they pee and you can scoop those areas out and replace with a small amount. Thereby stretching out how often you have to clean the bedding.

i also use this type of bedding and it works for my 2 parakeets too! super absorbent and you can tell because it'll puff and mush. then i just dump it in the garden.

You've seen aspen at tsc? That is where I get my pine pellets ($6-7 for a 40 lb bag) but if they have aspen I'm going to try that. Wait, is it in the small pet section? The pine I get is for horses (shhhh!!!)

I buy the aspen at Petsmart when I have a coupon, the rest of the time I buy the horse bedding at TSC. The one near me used to carry the aspen but stopped. Then they would special order it for me, but then that turned into a pain in the neck. Some of them carry it if they can sell enough of it.

The horse bedding is fine. ;) I called to make sure it was kiln dried. They've changed the brands several times and I am always having to look it up online or contact the companies directly to make sure it's safe. Every one I've come across at TSC has been kiln dried.
