According to chinchillasound website, gizmo has been making "mating sound" like wisful file on the site. It might sound silly but is he wanting a wife? Or if even if he is not, are there such thing when chinchilla reach the age that they want to mate with someone?

He doesn't want a "wife" he wants a female to impregnate. It's a natural instinct for him. Be careful, he may start humping hands/feet soon. You may want to consider getting him a fleece buddy.

Yea that what I wanna get! lol I definitely don't want another chinchilla or make babies. Now where can I get that? Is there any online store sell those? He is only 6 months old tho. Is it time yet?

They can and usually do hit puberty around that time, so yes, it could be time. Look through the supplies section of the forum, quite a few people who sell fleece items make buddies.

It's never too sonn to get him a fleece buddy! check out the stores our members have to find one! You can check the supplies for sale threads or check out the banners above of our sponsors for a chin store!

If he starts humping your hands when you reach in his cage, make sure you discourage him immediately by gently pushing him off you. I didn't right away, and I was definitely sorry later. Just sayin'!

oh my god! He was humping my arm! I reach in to clean up the poops and he limb up on my arm! It freaks me out! Now please tell me this is just a phase and it will go away? and how long is the phase? I'm buying him a fleece buddy today. It wouldn't get here til next 5 days, is he gonna be ok? Is there anything I can do?

Oh and since I stopped him from doing it right away, would he still humping my arm still? I'm a little scared to let him out since every time I let him out I have to sit in the playpen with him. Please tell me it is ok and not that gross... or whatever!

If you discourage it I am sure he will get the idea eventually - he's young and testing out his "moves" lol - he will be fine with or without the buddy...its just a natural instinct - dogs do it when they are a few months old too...don't look at it as being gross - lol he LOVES you hahaha

A) His time out of the cage for playtime is also your time to bond with him. You shouldn't have an issue taking him out and sitting in the playpen with him.

B) He's an animal, he's doing what comes naturally to him and he's not ashamed of it, why should you be?
