I think mine needs an evil eye... or something.

Never been this long without a job. Been to many interviews and picked up a few temp jobs along the way. Currently the tech market is saturated and competition is so tough here the state jobs will hit their 50 resume max within 48 hours of the job being posted.

I do often re-write for specific jobs so it is an ever evolving creature.

Thanks ahead of time!

It's really just a hard hard time to find a job.
It is, but unlike 95% of people, I have no obligations - I'm o.k. dumping my house and moving to a foreign country or war zone. Good pay to be had there... :))

What catches me on those jobs is a lack of security clearance.

Is it difficult to get security clearance?

I interviewed with 53 different companies when I was looking for a job. I was actually hired a couple times before the offers were rescinded. 9-11 happened and then the war business started happening right before I graduated the last time. But, you know, the chins are more fun than a real job - they just mean no real money. (The money is funneled through me from customers to people that sell me pellets and supplies...)

You'll find something eventually. Things are slowly getting better.

Extremely. The only way to get one is to have a company sponsor you or get on with the fed or military. They can take quite a bit of time, up to 6 months for the higher levels and cost a lot.

Funny you should mention the resume re-do, as my wife was approached by a company to re-do hers for only $485! Had to laugh!!!
Then we got a flyer from the library offering a free class for "tuning it up" yourself!
Guess which one she chose?
Might check with your local library.

I hear you Rick. My problem is that tuning your own resume suffers from barn blindness too, sometimes it's good to get a second (or third) set of eyes on it!

Tiffany has been giving me some excellent examples and suggestions so I'm building a new online keyword based one that is limited to one page.

Thanks Cathy, I'll be looking them up.

If you have the right qual's for many of the contract companies through homeland security like triple canopy, XE (used to be blackwater, also own's or owned by triple canopy, somehow connected), KBR, etc... they will usually pay for or help with getting the security clearance. My BIL and a good friend of my husbands work for these companies. My husband is considering it right now, very good pay, and he was told wouldn't take too much to get his clearance (though, he has already held one when he was in the military, and he currently works for the federal gov't).

I would call some of these companies and talk to a recruiter, not just apply online, they can help you get started in the right direction, if it takes 6 months, it could still be worth it for the money you would make. I know my husbands friend applied in Oct, and he boards a plane this month for Iraq. He delayed his start date to get through the holidays with his family. The only thing holding my husband back from applying is that I am pregnant. He doesn't want to miss the birth of his second child.
