I've read some of the threads already pertaining to colds, et cetera, but I have a slightly different situation and had some more specific questions.

I have allergies and I have exercise-induced asthma. This week I don't know if my allergies have been acting up or if I've had a minor cold, but I made the mistake of doing some cardio last night (which I do gently to try to help work my lungs up to normal, everyday cardio things, like walking up stairs...) and I think it caused my lymph nodes to majorly swell and I just came back from seeing a nurse. I got myself an inhaler and I don't have bronchitis, but had I waited longer, I probably would have gotten it (which, with the asthma, turns into a month to two month ordeal of steroids and crap).

I also just got my little darling from Vyxxin last weekend. I am afraid to let up on my presence around him, since he has been warming up to me so well -- he's also warming up to my boyfriend and roommate very quickly. He is extremely friendly (extremely!). I'm afraid that if I back off for being sick, he'll end up bonding more towards somebody else this early on -- is that unreasonable of me to consider? I have to admit I am pretty selfish when it comes to wanting me to be his #1!

I don't feel particularly ill, just asthmatic -- I'm not sitting here with a box of tissues -- but I don't want to take a major risk either. However, if my symptoms are practically non-existent, should I worry of passing anything on to him? If I thoroughly wash my hands and keep my mouth away from him, is that fine? If not that, can I at least be near him so he can hear my voice and watch me? Just yesterday he was crawling into my lap, so I don't want to lose that!

If something *does* go wrong, what should I be looking for in him to indicate that he may have caught something/is ill?

Thank you for any help!

If it was just your asthma acting up, you should be fine handling your chinchilla since asthma is not contagious. If the nurse said you have some sort of infection, then I would wash my hands before handling and maybe even wear a mask. Add limiting the amount of exposure to the list. Your chinchilla will pick up where you left off. He won't forget you in such a short time.
