Hello! My name is Amanda and I am, clearly, new here. I decided to (attempt to) become an active member, because this forum has given me LOADS of help since I got my very first chinchilla about a week ago- a 3 month old female I've named Lily (Chinchilli).
A tiny bit about me, then a lot about Lily: I'm 21 (well, 22 in 2 weeks). I'm a biology major with a minor in chemistry, and I love foreign languages. I've studied Spanish, German, Finnish, and am currently taking Russian. I sell my artwork and jewelry (sometimes), I bake a lot, I love puzzles and video games, and I'm an avid reader. I like to think I'm pretty friendly and I love getting to know people, so don't hesitate to send me a message if you're ever up for a chat! In July I moved from Oregon to South Dakota with my boyfriend (of 5+ years) and immediately got really, really, REALLY bored.
But enough about me, more about Lily!
I'd been researching chinchillas as pets for the last year and a half or so, but at the time we had a cat so I didn't feel comfortable bringing a chin into my home- but when we moved, unfortunately our kitty couldn't come with, so we left her with my boyfriend's mom. However, he's been working nights and I do my schooling online, so I got really bored and lonely, really quickly.
I happened to come across Lily last week and it was kind of a "take her home now or possibly never, we don't know" thing so I immediately brought her home. I had an idea of what I was getting into from my research, but reading about a chin is NOTHING compared to actually having one! I'm like a terribly overprotective mother and every little thing she does I have to question and look up whether it's normal and make sure she's okay- that's where this forum has come in, and has helped LOADS with Lily.
I've had a few scares so far, but overall she seems very happy and is getting extremely comfortable with me. She'll crawl into my hands and all over my arms, but still isn't too keen on me actually picking her up. I'm VERY happy I was able to bring Lily home!
Oh, that quickly turned into a novel. Haha, sorry! I just don't know a single person who owns, or has EVER owned, a chinchilla, so it's really fun for me to talk about with fellow owners who can understand my excitement.
