The endless 'which cage should I buy' debate.

Currently, Roo lives in this:http://www.petco.com/product/15487/Super-Pet-Multi-Floor-Ferret-Home.aspx?CoreCat=firstinresult_ferrethabitats
All the plastic has been replaced with wood shelves and fleece, and it's been a fairly good cage. Well, recently Roo has figured out that he can chew the plastic purple base. He's quickly chewing a hole big enough to escape from.
I've been toying with the idea of buying a ferret nation for a while, but they're so expensive! So here are my choices:

a.) I can only afford a single level ferret nation right now - but if I'm understanding right you can buy an add on later, correct? This is what I'm leaning towards doing..he would be in a smaller cage than what he's currently in though. Is a single level ferret nation big enough for one chinchilla?

b.) I found this:http://bham.craigslist.org/for/2891641135.html on craigslist, and got the guy to email a picture: http://oi41.tinypic.com/b67no5.jpg
I've looked on here for info about those cages and I've read that the doors are flimsy, and the cage in general isn't quality. But for $80? Hm.

c.) My dad has told me he could build a wooden shelf the size of the cage (that Roo is in currently) to attach above the purple base so he couldn't get down to it to chew while I save up for a double level ferret nation.

My dog has had a lot of health issues in the past several months, and vet bills are crazy expensive. I wish I had enough money to buy a nice, big cage right now, but I just can't. Which option sounds like the best plan? Also, any links to cheap(er) ferret nations would be greatly appreciated since Petsmart price matches.
Thanks! :)

Option C, and save your money for a bigger cage. Why spend money on a cage you'll just want to replace with a FN when you can afford it?

Just so you know, a single level FN is enough room for a chin. That would be my choice. I have 3- 3 level FNs- one chin occupies each floor and they are all doing fine. Then you can save up for the top level and your chin will be safe. :)

I would hold off for the cage you really want. I waited and saved up for my FN and Scoops and I both love it. A lot of people have found cheaper FNs on Craigslist. I bought mine off of Ferret.com and got a fairly decent price around the holidays so keep an eye there as well!

I agree with danik22, Option C is the best way to go until you can afford the cage you want.
