I have had my chin for over a year and he has always been extremely healthy! I decided to get him a buddy around Thanksgiving, as he was lonely (specifically asked the local pet store to order a MALE as I was not planning on breeding) but long story short - the store provided me with a very sick, FEMALE chin. Rushed her to the emergency vet after having her for less than 24 hours, and had to unfortunately euthanize her due to a respiratory infection (the vets said she had probably had it for weeks).
After that, I had been keeping a close eye on my original chin and he was fine for about two weeks. The minute I noticed him not eating as much, I rushed him to a local exotic pet vet. Although the vet had seen a "handful of chins" in his day, he did not provide any serious diagnosis and prescribed some antibiotics.
After 10 days of antibiotics, went back to the vet for the check up and was told everything was fine. However, it seems that my chin is still not feeling well!
I think he is depressed (at having lost the only chin friend he's ever met). He is being extremely lethargic, and will only drink when I hold the bottle in front of his face. He will also only eat if I push the hay and pellets into his hand. He's been making very little poops and earlier today made a poop that came out with goo on it. I don't think it was diarrhea but it was slimy!
Any suggestion as to what I should do? I am considering seeing a different vet, but am concerned that a similar situation will arise.
I currently live in Waco, tx as a student but will not mind a commute for a GOOD exotic vet!!
Please provide some advice!
