We are adopting a 1.5 yr old girl Chinchilla this week. She loves her family hasnt bitten or sprayed them. Do you think she will act different with us or once they reach a certain age they are set? We have been reading, watching youtube videos and looking on line but first time having a Chin. Also if use fleece for bedding how often do you change. Mostly just curious if already use to being held do you think will bond with us easy.

Chins are individuals and how they react to different people and situations is really not predictable. More than likely she will be fine, but there's no way to know until you get her.

When I used fleece liners I changed them at least twice a week, but usually every other day. They get smelly quickly when the chin pees on them.

Most chins take at least a week to get to know new people, some times less but most times more, my current two they were good within hours of being here. If she is fine with handling with her current family it shouldn't take long to get use to you since the handling isn't new just the humans doing so. However some chins act completely different in a new home, or kind of freak out for awhile, especially if it's a new cage with new stuff since nothing smells like them. I wouldn't really use youtube as research material, people tend to do a lot of stupid and dangerous things that they then post videos of. For example feeding junk food, using run around balls (aka death balls), making their chin swim... the list goes on and on. This forum though is a great wealth of info, we have everything from pet owners to commercial/large scale breeders on here, so some people with decades of experience.

If you are taking about personality change at puberty, that normally happens around at roughly 6 months to a year, give or take a few months.

As said the fleece you'll want to change a couple times a week, it all depends on how much she pees and if she uses a litter pan to pee in or not. Don't use fabric softener or chemical detergent to wash them either, vinegar works well and is safe. Also another thing to mention with the fleece is if she chews it you'll have to remove it and use a different kind of bedding.

Each chin reacts a bit differently with each person. I have seen chins that hate me with a passion be cuddle bugs with their new owners. The fact that she was happy and calm with them is a good sign if you are patient and take the time to work with her. Be aware it can take a week or a month to fully settle in to a new home, so dont rush the interacting/bonding process.

fingers crossed

:thumbsup:Well she is here and so far so good. We have her with her own cage and belongings so prob made it better. New question though. She seems really good with us but when my dogs come in room even though very calm not barking or anything, she makes a clicking sound so I am assuming that is unhappy. We Are keeping dogs away for now but how should we go about introducing them again. Not out of cage, just with them being able to walk by or sit close by with out srress. I am thinking just a little each day, she is brand new so probably a lot of stress from new environment.

Wait till she is comfortable in your home, then you can try placing a baby gate in the door so she can see and smell them without them being close. As she adjusts, you can use a play pen/gate to create an area that the dogs cant get close enough to scare her. It can take a long time for certain chins (especially flighty ones) to get used to them.
