2 nights ago it stopped blowing air at all. My husband solved that problem by removing a clogged filter. Luckily it was cool out and the ac sort of worked after that so we managed to keep it at 75F. Well today it still wasn't blowing any cooler and my husband thinks it's constant blowing without the air going anywhere has frozen the coils. The fix for that is to turn the ac off for several hours. We're at 77F and I just put frozen bottles of water in each chins usual sleeping spot. It's likely we will hit 80 before we can turn it back on.

Ac is a must. Take the chins to a friends house if you have to to keep them cool. Water bottles and fans won't do anything for them. If the ac unit froze up its either low on coolant, full of dirt or not repairable. Until you know the chins need moved to a cooler place.

This time of year no one runs the ac and I don't have any friends. My stepdad is abusive and would freak over us having chins and over having to turn on his ac and use up precious electricity which is the only thing he pays for. If the ac doesn't work tonight I can borrow a portable unit. Although they'll wonder why since it's only 75F out the rest of the week and 40F at night. We might get away with just buying a big box fan to pull the air in to the room the chins are in. I did have the door open but no air was really coming in and it is now 76F out so little help. We just have to get through the next hour or 2 today and then it will cool off for the week.

Frozen bottles are actually doing quite a bit. The houses and tubes are holding in the cold so it's several degrees cooler in them and the metal pans under the fleece are spreading it across the cage so the whole thing is like a chin chiller.

Open all the windows tonight to cool it down then close them up before the sun rises. That should keep it cool for a bit while you get the machine replaced/fixed. Don't depend on the weather staying cool, forecasts can be wrong! gl

eastern Iowa The guy is out right now trying to figure out the problem but he's finding electricity at the breaker and none at the ac unit. We may have to call an electrician instead.

We can't use a cheap window unit because there are no windows in that room. Just a door to the porch. Other rooms with windows slide sideways not up and the door is closed all night.
