Most of you guys have probably heard me talk about my horse Shady. I love my big black horse, but... after two "trainers" working with him... he's not broke yet.

The first one I fired for being abusive to him, the second said he'd be okay then totally flip out and buck, and told me that I was wasting my time.

So with the town on my behind about how many horses I can have anyway, I decided a while ago that maybe Shady needed to find someone who could handle him. He's awesome on the ground like a puppy dog. But the last guy who rode him was really messed up after Shady got done with him. So yea, I'm scared to ride him. Last time I was bucked off I had cracked ribs and a dislocated hip.

So finally I found someone who I thought would be good for him, told him the deal, and so we've made a "Shady deal". He's going to take him for two weeks, and let me know if he thinks he could get him kid broke and trust worthy, and if not he'll either buy him, or trade me for something more "reliable". I'm excited with hope that I will get to keep my beautiful boy after all.

I've already put a lot of time into him and money, and hope that I don't have to keep piling more in. And this guy likes to "work out a deal" so I might be able to even trade him work for training! Also I told him if he could get him broke I'd give him a sorrel 2 yr old mare I have. I got her out of a trade of someone else who owes me money, guess I'm a horse trader now huh?! Anyway, I don't have a place or job for her right now and they were going to send her to rescue because they didn't have money to pay me, or care for her. Not to mention a place either. Bad deal all the way around.

I just had to share my excitement and a newer photo of Shady.

Thanks everyone. He is a good boy, on the ground anyway! I'm really excited and hope it all works out. This guy seems like a real nice guy, seems like a straight shooter and real honest. Shady LOVED him, and he's usually a little nervous about guys he doesn't know. He was right up next to him snuggling with him. I told him about the guy who started working with him, Polo. And he knew him, I told him how he was so mean to him that I "fired" him, he would tie him up until his feet were bleeding and I said no more. I don't want a horse that is terrified of me. He was talking to his friend in Spanish, so I didn't get all he said, but he was telling him what Polo did to him, and he didn't sound impressed about it.

I'm excited! Hopefully everything works out!

It sounds to me if he ends up taking him because he can't be broke he will sell him to a rodeo circut. They pay alot of money for good bucking horses, but I'm not sure if they take good care of them or not. Just something to think about.
PS I have a picture in my mind of your cockateil holding onto his mane and going for one heck of a wild ride. Hehe

Rodeo circuits do take good care of their horses, because that is how they get paid. A sick, hurt or otherwise unhealthy horse won't have the buck that a good healthy one does. We talked with Jerome Robinson already about selling him to him, but we needed footage of him bucking or he'd just pay weight up price, and no one has wanted to get bucked!

If he fails a third time you can always try natural horsemanship. It's free and you never know, it might make a difference.

I meant natural horsemanship - John/Josh Lyons and Clinton Anderson put out some of the best working ranch horses I've ever seen.

On the RFD channel last year Clinton worked with a mare that had similar issues, and she turned out to be an amazing horse.

Ahh, I see. He's been worked with doing Clinton Anderson methods by me. He's not wild or crazy, so I don't get how he's supposedly so "wild" and such, I think that Santiago will work with him well. He's trained horses tricks and such, so he's willing to put in the time. Shady is usually unsure about guys, but he was snuggling with him, even though I was right there. So.. fingers crossed. He leaves this weekend! Probably Sat. or maybe Friday?

He is a "grade quarter horse". I'm sure he has/had papers or an application, but the guy who brought him to the auction was not a nice person, I tried to talk to him. I don't know if he was the breeder or a trader, but that pen had about 15 yearlings in it, and I'm going to guess they are out of the same herd because there were several blacks.

I was thinking about going on a search to see if I can find anything that he might be out of, he has an unusual trait, his hind "socks" don't go down to his hoof. I was also thinking about seeing the the AQHA can do a DNA test to see what bloodlines he carries. Unless his actual parents are tested and entered it probably won't yield anything, and I'm not going to pay 1000 to have a four year old gelding registered even if I did find out, but it would be nice to kind of know. I enjoy researching pedigrees.

I have a mare who's coming two, and I got her through a $65 dollar debt trade. So basically I got her for $65. I was planning on just putting some weight on her and re-selling, but I might keep her I decided. I'm trying to get the town to allow us more than two horses per residence, I proposed 1 horse per acre, or 2 horses per residence which ever is greater. Like I told them, as it currently is, I could own 20 acres along the outter edge of town, but still only have two horses, which to me is a huge waste. Anyway, I tracked her back and she is probably 95% foundation bred, she goes back to almost every one of the 100% foundation studs. Her recent lines are Plenty Blueberry and Pines Zippo Bar ( Zippo Pine Bars full brother ). I traced them back until about 1900, and there are no records before that.

Sorry for the long post!
