One of our chins, monty came out of quarentine 5 weeks ago, he was started playtime with our other chin, gizmo a week later. In the last week they had just started getting on well, cuddling a bit.

Unfortunately yesterday Gizmo died of GI stasis at the vets, he seemed to be eating up till Friday night, but Saturday morning he looked really listless and not moving, took him straight to vets, he detoriated within the 20 min we were there, and had to be let go

Monty hasn't seemed to be fazed yet, not sure if he knows that his friend has gone yet.

We are going away in May, so wouldn't be looking until after than, but just wondering whether it is worth getting him another friend, or whether he will be happy enough on his own.

No one could replace gizmo, but they looked sweet together

If you have the time to give him lots of attention, then he will be fine without a friend. If you don't think that you do, then by all means, get him a friend. Just remember, they may not get along and you may need to keep them in separate cages.

thanks, we will be keeping a 2nd cage for the indefinite future anyway
