My female gave birth to a male kit either yesterday or early today. I work weird hours so I've been away from home and my parents have been feeding the two of them.

Tonight when I noticed the baby, I immediately seperated the mother and son (I think it's a male after looking up a couple of sexing websites). The mother and son are now in my bedroom, while the male is downstairs on his own.

My problems are these:

The male seems very upset. Obviously he's upset that he's no longer with his mate, which he's been very close to, but he's now biting at me, which is irregular.

Also, the female seems to feed her baby every two hour or so, however both the mother and the baby are wimpering, and I don't know if maybe it's because the mom misses the dad, and the baby isn't getting what he needs from the mother?

Some advice would be nice. I have the funds to be able to hand feed the new baby if that's what is needed, this is the first kid she's ever had so I'm not really sure what is regular.

Thanks in advance for any information you guys can give me, you seem like a knowing community. :)

Mom and baby are probably just talking to each other and not whimpering. Moms and kits do this all the time. They should be fine. The male will get over it. Just give him time and a lot of attention. If he bites, don't back away. firmly tell him "no" and continue with what you were doing. This will teach him that biting will not get him his way. You may want to wear leather gloves when handling him until he stops biting. Do not put the male back in with mom. If he attempts to breed her, the kit could get trampled. Besides, she does not need to get pregnant while she is nursing a kit.
