But its about time the USA production companies started producing animation geared at older audiences.
Yeah, same here. On a local forum I am on, I have a person making sarcastic comments about how I'm 30 and find animation entertaining and beautiful. I made a comment about how Disney's Princess and the Frog looks gorgeous and she/he made a snide comment about how that was going a bit far, it was a cartoon...I explained to me, its art. No different then looking at the Mona Lisa and appreciating it for its perfection and beauty. Animation IS an art. Just like all art, it has different styles and different audiences. And not all animation is kids stuff, especially these days. Just watch some anime. But its about time the USA production companies started producing animation geared at older audiences.
Yes, it is PG-13 due to violence and "scary images". The Cat Beast is quite frightening looking.
And yeah, Shrek are geared humor wise at adults and kids. With the adult jokes going over the kids heads. But when I mean animation geared at adults, I mean like the whole movie. Not just jokes and innuendos.
But all in all...a lot of production companies who make kids movies are working to gear them at adults as well. Afterall...who PAYS for the tickets...the parents. With the cost of movie tickets and the bad economy, sales are down. They need to keep people coming to the theater, so they are gearing more movies at a large based audience. So sure, the kids love the fart and burp jokes and Donkey is so funny. But the parents get 'Do you think he's compensating for something?'...right over the kids heads!
I totally agree with this! Art comes in all shapes and forms and animation is just as reputable as painting, music, or theater. I also agree that the Princess and the Frog looks amazing. I almost cried tears of happiness when I saw the tailor because I really do miss Disney 2D animations. Don't get me wrong 3D Pixar animation has reached a level of immersion than I think people would have never imagined we'd get to... but still... They're something about classic Disney 2D that makes me beyond happy. Not to mention the movie looks like it has lots of good history in it ( I saw some 40 style big band scenes that looked brilliant!) So happy :dance3:
