I have just bought 2 male chins who are about 3months old. The bigger of them does not seem to be eating anything. He is fairly tame and is happy to be picked up but when I put him back and offer him a treat he just starts barking. My other chin started eating straight away although is not so happy about being handled. I am worried about the one that is not eating. Is it cos he is still adjusting to a new enviroment or is it a male thing. In the past I have had only female chins, one of which only barked when we were waiting to see the vet.

He's probably just getting used to you and the new environment. I don't think it has anything to do with males or females, just more to do with the chins personality.

If you're worried about him not eating, weigh him at a regular time for a few days. Every day at 8 p.m. maybe. A few gm fluctuation is normal, but if he should start losing lots of weight, then you would need to be concerned. Most likely he is eating, you're just not seeing it.

I agree. Chins can take a bit to get used to their new homes. Most of the time within three days they start eating and drinking normally.

But, I know how you feel. Every now and then a chin will come in and I am just terrified because it won't seem happy at all. After three days I win them over....most chins won't take too long until their curiosity gets the better of them and they HAVE to be sweet and nosy.

Keep us updated on how the little guys do. Give them some space for the next couple days and they'll stop with the barking. ;)

I would weigh him and if he starts loosing weight, then worry. Otherwise he's probably just eating when you're not watching!
