    preping wood question

I was given some pear wood that has a green powder on it, looks like some kind of algea. I'm wondering if it ok to use, I can scrub it off with soap and water, but am wondering if whatever it is could still be there unseen. The wood was from an un-sprayed tree. Should I try to use it ? I still...

    What kind of glue?

I got some wooden dowels and drilled half way into the shelf edge and the poo guard, just lined them up with a pencil mark, and then used a small amount of Elmers. Only needed slight clamping and after drying a light sanding. Shelves are really strong and keep the poop from getting everywhere.

    Two Levels of Ferret Nation

The middle floor also helps makes the cage less likely to squeak and wobble when the fuzzy buts run on their wheel.

    Ware Popup Playpen Fun

We have one of these, Edgar loves to bounce off the walls. The one down side is he has learned how to defeat the velcro holding the floor down and escape his "jail cell". So I had to go to the fabric store and get heavy duty snaps. It does the trick, he can't escape and he has no intrest in...

    new chinchilla mom!

Welcome to the forum! I would get or make your chinchilla a wooden hidey house. If it is a plastic dust house you don't want him chewing on it. As for bedding, aspen or kiln dried pine is the suggested bedding. Don't worry about them sleeping, mine sleep most of the day and become active about...

Using the Freezer for cooling plates?

My wife made fleece socks and we put soda bottles of frozen water in them, the chins don't chew the fleece and the chins just snuggle up to them to help keep cool, that and granite slabs along with a/c and the chins keep cool.

Moving: Transportation and Shopping For a New Cage?

When we travel with our 3 boys I always give them 2 or 3 apple sticks to keep them busy during the ride. I think it helps callm them. On long trips I will also half way through the trip stop at a rest stop to check if anyone needs more water (water buddies are great if you can find them and...

what type of ledges, besides wood?

Poplar is safe and slightly harder than pine, works well lasts a little longer than pine, but they will still chew on them. The down side is it is a little more expensive than pine. You can get it at lowes or home depot.

    Soft poo

When we had that sort of problem, we asked our breeder for advice, she had us take away all treats and just offered hay and pellets with the addition of shredded wheat, that did the trick for us and edgar's poops became normal. Hope your chin gets better.

    Just something fun

Edgar stole my glasses right off my head while I was putting hay in his bowl,he just walked up ,it looked like he was going to sniff me, like he always does, and in a flash he grabbed the nose bridge and took off for the lower level of his FN. Got them back as soon as I could, now my glasses have...

    Its gettin hot in here!

We take small soda bottles filled with water and freeze them, then put them in a fleece bag,so they don't chew the bottles. Place them on a chin chiller and the chins are happy. They snuggle right up to them to cool off. But a/c is always better.
