    Desperate in Bakersfield, CA

UGH!!!! :banghead: The following was posted on one of my local homeschooling FB groups. I have responded with some info for her and telling anyone who is considering taking these animals that they are high maintenance with strict dietary, housing and exercise needs and that I would be more than...

    Need Oxbow Critical Care

I am possibly in need of Critical Care...urgently. My local feed store (where I get my hay and pellets) normally has Critical Care and they are out right now. They are calling their vendor to see if they can have it by tomorrow, but I don't want to waste any time. Does anyone here have...

Poo Here...Poo There...Poo Everywhere!!! :dance3: Got up this morning and there were more poos in the cage than I could count!! Ok, I didn't really try to count them, but there was A LOT!! ;) There was a pile of hay outside the hay box, so I know he must have been pulling some out. And his...

We've got poo!!! This morning there were lots of nice sized poos in the cage!! :dance3: As soon as he noticed me in the room he came right over to the door of the cage. When I got him out to give him his Reglan and try a syringe feeding...he was very fiesty! I didn't get much into him during...

Thanks Caiti! Update: We had two big poos during playtime tonight! He was nicely active...I wouldn't say 100%, but active. ;) Still continuing with simethicone & Reglan for now. Still doing some syringe feeding, but also trying to give him a chance to eat on his own. I have seen him eat...

Thank you Jazicat. I appreciate your thoughtful words. I am just so thankful that we have a place like this that we can come to...and for all of the people that are so willing to give their time and share their knowledge. Our little guy is so special to us. We picked him out when he was 2...

    Back trauma & gas

I think we are getting closer to the recovery side of this. Vet visit yesterday was full of my nodding my head and saying, "OK"...while inside I just let most of it go in one ear and out the other. I really began to tune out when I told the vet that I was giving Mirko some floor...

    Back trauma & gas

Update: I have stopped the ketoprofen (vet order). I have Mylicon drops that I am giving roughly every 3 hours...about 1 hour after each feeding. I can usually get most of the dropper full into him, but it's still pretty rough. I have stopped the Emeraid and am waiting for some Critical Care...

    Back trauma & gas

Ok, finally found some simethicone!! Also stopped by the vet and found out that pain meds were giving yesterday and the fluids were sub-q...not IV like I had thought. Also, found out that it is NOT critical care that he gave me. I asked if I could purchase some more (they are putting it in a...

    Back trauma & gas

Thank you so much to everyone for your help. I am going to go out right now in search of the simethicone again...it's not that I don't know what it is or where it's at...the store shelves are empty. There is a spot for it, but no product. He is taking the Reglan like a champ, I can get...

    Back trauma & gas

Update: Mirko spent all day Thursday at vet...IV fluids, hand feeding, motility drugs, etc. The vet sent us home with some Reglan and Critical Care. (I had to request the critical care.) I went to 4 stores today and was unable to find simethicone. We must have a lot of gassy babies in town...

    Back trauma & gas

I wouldn't say the ketoprofen tastes sweet...it tastes like medicine. I am so upset and so stressed out and now I am feeling like the vet doesn't know the right things to do. I chose this vet because he was the only one that actually advertised exotics and specifically chinchillas. I also...

    Back trauma & gas

Thank you so much to both of you. I am going to call vet right now. One more question: Is there a simple trick to getting them to take what's in the syringe? I was able to get the small amount of Ketoprofen into him this morning...but it was a struggle. He is a very sweet chin...no biting...

    Back trauma & gas

Hello, I was an old member of chins-n-quills but had not been there for quite some time and recently found this forum. I have had my chin for almost 4 years...have had him since 8 weeks old. (Furball Ranch) I am just home from the vet where a set of xrays has shown some trauma to the back...
