    Should I get a dehumidifier?

Hmm I'll go get a humidity thermometer to see what the actual humidity in my chinnie's room is, and look up some humidifiers (that one is kinda pricey!) Thanks for the input everyone!

    Should I get a dehumidifier?

Thanks that's really helpful! I had only recently checked the humidity in Portland because I was thinking ahead of what summer will be like - and was surprised that the numbers looked so high! I've lived in NYC before and it def gets super humid in the summer there, you can feel it. So I was...

    Should I get a dehumidifier?

Yeah it didn't even occur to me to get a dehumidifier until I actually checked the humidity here - it sounds really high but doesn't feel that way for some reason? I had to rub some olive oil on his feet today bc they were getting dry. Anyways, I'll get a little dehumidifier to make sure his...

    Hello!

I've posted a few times already - mostly first time chinnie owner freaking-out kind of questions - so I figure I should intro myself - Hi! My name is Katy and I adopted a gray standard ~3y/o male chinnie, named Mr. B, in December. He was named Mr. Bigglesworth by the adoption agency, hence the...

The time you knew your chinnie liked you <3

Tell me the story of when you first felt your chinnie was beginning to bond with you! :D My story: I adopted my chin, Mr. B, the beginning of December. He's a pretty well behaved and chill, but hates being picked up like any other chin. He'll kack and sometimes bite but it's just a nip. Last...

    Should I get a dehumidifier?

I live in Portland, OR, and it gets kinda humid in the winter (70-80%!) but only around 60% in the summer, so I was wondering if I should get a dehumidifier for my chin? I haven't had him during the summer yet so it'll be a test. He seems fine with the higher winter humidity at the moment. The...

How to encourage Chinchilla to eat more hay?

I tried a sample pack from rabbitholehay.com and he loved the medium timothy hay! Guess he really wasn't feeling the oxbow (still likes the oxbow oat hay tho). Phew, hopefully this will help prevent him from getting molar spurs in the future!

How to encourage Chinchilla to eat more hay?

I adopted a Chinchilla about a month ago, and he definitely has a preference for pellets over hay (probably how he got his molar spurs which had to be removed a few weeks ago). How do I get him more interested in hay? I now have several varieties of it, but he still has a preference for...

Experiences post anesthesia and dental work?

How were your Chinchillas after having dental work done? Mine just came home after getting molar spurs ground down. The vet said he would be really lethargic for 12 hours or so. Right now he's hiding in his hut and has been making weird rhythmic sounds that might be linked to his breathing...

Crash course on sick Chin care (my chin is on Meloxicam and not eating much now)

Of course, as I finish writing this I hear him in the other room running on his wheel.. so maybe he's feeling a bit better?? He wouldn't eat anymore mush when I offered it to him though.

Crash course on sick Chin care (my chin is on Meloxicam and not eating much now)

I've had my chinchilla, Mr. B, for about a month now. I adopted him from a Chinchilla adoption center and he was a bright happy chin! Been feeding him Oxbow Essential pellets, timothy hay, occasional chinchilla safe dried flowers/herbs, and spoiling him with apple sticks, chew toys etc...

    How to prevent molar spurs

Btw is there a ratio/amount you suggest? I heard they're mostly supposed to eat timothy hay so do I just sprinkle in the other types?

    How to prevent molar spurs

Oh actually Oxbow has a 4 pack of hay! Yayy

    How to prevent molar spurs

Oh that makes sense, thanks! Once he gets his molars fixed hopefully they'll all be lined up. I'll buy some different types of grasses to encourage him to eat more hay. :) I do wish companies sold bags of mixed hay though, now I'm gonna have big bags of each one!

    How to prevent molar spurs

Hi! I'm a new chinnie owner and have had my Chinchilla, Mr. B, for about a month now. On Friday he started rubbing his mouth/grinding his teeth and kind of wincing in pain. I brought him to the vet and she says he has points on his molars that are causing inflammation in his mouth, so I am...
