    Build A Cage?

It really depends on what you want your cage to look like.

    Unexpected Baby Chinchilla

Losing a couple grams or so within a couple days of birth is normal. Sometimes mom's milk doesn't come in as long as 5 days. You can try supplementing now, but he will probably be stubborn about it. When it comes to hand feeding, sometimes you have to be a bit more firm with squirting just a...

    Build A Cage?

A number of people have made their own cages. The question is what materials to use. If you know some one or a supplier that can get rolls of cage grade wire mesh, then you can go that route. Others have made custom houses out of wood and wire or have used wire shelving/melamine panels. I...

Best online source for hay and pellets??

I buy all of my hay from KMS Kleenmama. They have a few hays to choose from, pending the season. My chins have always loved their hay. As for pellets, it depends on which type you feed. A lot of our vendors here have a variety.

    Have you separated her yet?

Advice needed for chin not eating

Nan, I would try separating her since nothing else is working. At least then you could really determine if she's touching any food you're offering her.

    Unexpected Baby Chinchilla

Some babies can be quite mobile after birth, others not. I hope you have removed the male, as they can re-breed quite quickly after birth. At the very least, put mom and baby in a cage that has holes no bigger than 1"x1/2". Babies can get out of openings larger than that. They figure out how...

    Fleece Liners and the Smell

It sounds like they're not using their litter pans at all if it starts to smell in that period of time. You might be better off going back to Carefresh or switching out the liners everyday/every other day.

    Hay Holder

I have used wooden ones myself, but haven't found a good and safe metal version. I personally would go with a wood version. I know others have used terra cotta flower pots, coffee mugs, or large food bowls to hold hay.

Rescue breeding pair ? Advice please!!

If you're that new to having chins, its probably not a good idea. If you decide to get them however, I'd separate the male now and keep the female by herself. You'll have to be ready to get multiple cages, depending on the kits' sex, etc.

    Fleece Lining Filler

Some people just put another layer of fleece or terry cloth in the center.

    Pine Cones??

I've heard that they're safe and unsafe from different people. I personally haven't tried them, but don't plan on it either. I would pass on that particular toy myself.

    Appropriate cage?

Agreed, take out the plastic wheel and house. The bottom is not preferable, especially if they love plastic. If your chin ignores it, it should be fine.

    2014 California ECBC State Show

We are getting some great donations from vendors. I am donating a blue chinchilla print infinity scarf from ChinChic (http://chinchic.bigcartel.com/product/custom-chinchilla-infinity-scarf). ChinChic is also donated an ebony Floofie, her stuffed animal/chinchilla for people...

    Appropriate cage?

I personally think 18"x16"x18" is a bit small for a pet chin. The other cage you mentioned is fine for at least one chin, maybe two. I'd avoid the plastic bottoms just to be safe however.
