    Extreme Winter Travel!!

As long as she is out of direct drafts and you are going straight from house to car, car to hotel etc., she should be fine with a blanket thrown over her as you get inside. I would recommend starting the car and getting the temperature to a comfortable level before putting her in there too...

    My 2 biggest chins

Big girls certainly can get pregnant! They might just need a feisty, smaller male. I have a big girl, a beautiful beige, who is a super slow breeder. She has had one litter for me since 2010. After she and her previous male proved they were just going to hang out, I swapped in a smaller but...

Sad that I missed this post - I would have been glad to help! But I was out of town. Let me know if you need anything else!

    How cold can chinchillas tolerate?

Old time ranchers kept their barns/buildings at about 40 F. The biggest concern was preventing water bottles or systems from freezing up. My chins in the winter generally stay in the 50s in their current area; in their new area they will be about 60.

Chin attacked, what do I do now?

Yes I agree - don't attempt to reintroduce them. There's no reason to put them through a neuter and then try to do so; bad fights mean they should be separated permanently.

Depressed mom after taking baby away?

It's also possible that she is eating when you aren't present, and that less food is being consumed because kit is gone. Kits eat a lot - they're growing! - and moms eat more when they have kits in with them because they're nursing and it takes a lot of nutrients to make breastmilk. Try giving...

What do you use to keep your floor clean?

My shop vac is my best friend while the chins are in a carpeted area. I will sweep with a broom to get the big pieces up and then go over it with my shop vac. Can't wait to get them back on concrete though!

Allergy / Respiratory Problems due to Dust

I always wear a mask when dusting or cleaning cages. The chin room also has an air purifier running most of the time. I tend to take a daily allergy preventative (Claritin) just to ease my sinuses since I have no idea what I am specifically allergic to - but I do know that hay and dust irritate me.

    Standard males

Also available is an adult female, extra dark ebony female, not shown or proven but is potentially pregnant, which means she wouldn't be able to go until it is confirmed that she is not pregnant unless the buyer is experienced with babies. $200.

List of fruits chins can eat?

Unfortunately there is a lot of conflicting information online about chinchilla care. In general, I stick to hay, pellets, and maybe an oat supplement on occasion. A cheerio as a treat here or there won't hurt either.

How to clean watering system nozzles

Very nice to see your setup - I will be putting my system in this fall. A bit nervous about it but I want to give it a try.

    Breeding Runs

They are, I have several from them. So far all second-hand because I can't afford the up-front cost of shipping!

    Breeding Runs

I haven't made any of my own yet but I plan to. My father made cages for me in the past and is willing to help me with these, simply because I prefer a type similar to Vyxxin except I like built-in hay holders as dividers instead of solid dividers. The ones I have found that I like best, the...

    Breeding Runs

I have some specs that I could dig up for you... no blueprints though, I don't know where those went.

    I don't get it.

That was a fun little exchange... the next couple of days were filled with them trying to justify their choice in diets and harassing us for being pellet and hay feeders... I know what works for my chinchillas. In the past ten years I have changed very little about how I keep them because if it...

    Leaving chins alone for days

We have to travel generally Friday night to Sunday morning for most shows we attend. I give loose and cubed hay, ensure water is fresh and full, and fill all feeders. Someone pops in on Saturday to check on the chins but they do not need to feed or water as long as everything is okay. When I...
