    Benefit of Second Chinchilla?

We got our second as a companion for our first. As it turns out the first is very territorial and I'm not sure I trust her with anyone else. But the big bonus is the second is awesome. We love her just as much as the first one. And more than anything it's fascinating to see how different/same...

    Next Question: Play Area!

We use the landing area on our staircase for playtime. Easy to vacuum and neither of them are all that interested in eating the carpet. As far as knowing when playtime is over? I look for when Vincenza's ears start to look a little flushed. Usually about 20-30 minutes. She's a pink and white...

I demand these chins stay clean! (laughs )

Ours are pretty good. Except the endless poop battle. Oh the poop

    Cinnamon and Vincenza say hi

Oh hello did you come to my cage? We've started calling her drop bear after an urban legend/trick on tourists in Australia. They'll tell you there's a type of carnivorous koala that drops from the trees with no warning. Cinnamon will appear from nowhere, except she doesn't want to bite your...

    Going away for Christmas..

We used care.com to find a pet sitter. We got extremely lucky and found a very sweet girl who used to own chinchillas. She loves them to bits. We recently had to leave the country for a couple weeks and she did a great job. We vetted her for a day or so visit before and I also have a chinchilla...

taking my chinchilla on a walk?

I think there are a couple other problems too. They're so little they might get stepped on and they love to chew everything, lord knows what's on the ground. Plus, cats. Cats.

    Talking in Chin Language?

I discovered Vincenza likes it when I sing "Little Bunny Foo Foo" to her. I think because she's an evil rodent who wants to bop other rodents on the head. She's really vocal and knows her name. When she's feeling needy she runs up to the side of the cage and makes her contact noise. And if...

    My chin barking

Vincenza barks in her sleep and occasionally when I'm not spending enough time with her, or so she thinks, she barks at me. It's pretty normal :)

    Cinnamon and Vincenza

Cinnamon is coming around! She won't let us skritch her, but she does come out to say hi. This is feeding time! This is cookie time Vincenza is not happy about being photographed during afternoon snack. You can't tell here but she's getting so much gray in her fur. The little dot on her...

How the heck do you find a pet sitter?

I think Quality Mutations used to board but I tried e-mailing a couple times and didn't hear back. No other chin rescues in the area. I'm trying to get some of my friends, who love the chinnies, to come and pet sit but everyone wants to go out of town over Labor Day! Oh, yeah, just checked QM...

How the heck do you find a pet sitter?

Ugh! We're looking at going out of town for a few days over Labor Day, been scouring the local pet sitters + our vet and can't find anything. I thought I started early enough but not so much! Have you managed to find a sitter? How did you do it? And as a side note, if you know of someone who...

    Buzzing sound

Hmmm, it seems to be more when she's drinking now. I'm thinking we might get her into the vet.

    Buzzing sound

It's the weirdest thing, Cinnamon started making this buzzing sound with her teeth. It must be grinding but it really does sound like a buzz. She's eating, drinking, chewing, pooping. Any thoughts? Maybe she is just grinding her teeth a little bit? The last time we heard it was when she was...

Do chins and cats get along??

Not only are they prey, they're rodents! Or something cats were domesticated to eat! They even look like "hoppy mice" according to my friend's two year old

    New chin

My chins are very particular about how they're held too. Vincenza likes to be face first, Cinnamon likes to face out.

In this heat please don't overlook the little things....

I keep a thermometer with the cages, it checks humidity and temp. It helps a lot during the random temperature spikes.

    Same problems, not uri!

When we got Vincenza she had a little bit of a cold. We had her on watch for the first 24 hours after the vet pointed it out and... it cleared up on its own. She had boogers too :) It was only because the vet listened to her lungs and took her temp that we didn't immediately put her on meds...
