The spot on the left looks like urine. I see stuff like that on my metal pans (chins dig up their liners) Usually pee gets absorbed by the liner right away, I've never seen anything like that sitting on it.

Chinchilla = Mess period. I clean up hay, sticks, and poop every morning. Vacuum twice a day, and there is still stuff around the cages. I just live with it.

Sometimes a cold turkey switch is the best way to go. Especially if they are on crap food like Kaytee. Since some of them have loose stool I'd do hay only for a few days, then put them on a good feed when it clears up.

I feed Tradition and Nutrena. I still can't get one of my guys to switch to Tradition, so I gave up and let him have Nutrena since he does better on it.
