    Need Help With Medication Dosage

Jameson was in the emergency vet tonight. I just removed his second massive fur ring of the week (he's been getting them a lot lately) and he was displaying symptoms of another urethral stone (squatting/straining, pressing his lower abdomen to the floor). Xrays revealed no stones, thank God...

    No Exotics Allowed >:-(

We found a company that allows domestic hamsters and gerbils. I asked about domestic American bred chinchillas and all the managers at the complex are ok with them (charging me a $200 pet deposit but whatever). The managers recommended that if we move or look elsewhere to just call them...

    No Exotics Allowed >:-(

I don't say exotic. But when apartment managers look them up they are labeled exotic. Unfortunately they have the label even though they are not as exotic as most exotic animals. Mine were all bred in the States, and are different from their wild counterparts. Mine couldn't survive in the wild...

    No Exotics Allowed >:-(

Ugh, I am so frustrated. We're in the process of moving and I am having no luck finding an apartment complex that will allow chinchillas. I've kept my chins in my apartment for the last 6 years and my landlord has never had an issue. They accept caged pets no questions asked. Every new complex I...

    Beaphar and ZuPreem Pellets

Beaphar is a wonderful pellet! It's expensive to ship to the US, for that reason I'd only recommend it if the chinchilla really needs it. Otherwise there are lots of wonderful pellets sold in the states; Tradition, Oxbow, Mazuri, and Neutrena are just a few.

    Be mine?

Ahahahaha!! You need to create a 'how to' video on how to get your chinchillas to tolerate playing dress up. I have a cute santa hat that even my calmest boy won't wear.

Low Calcium Pellets/ Crude Ash in Beaphar?

No worries Jags, it was good information. What is ADF? As long as he's healthy fur quality doesn't bother me, he's just a spoiled pet. Jameson came home Wednesday night. He's on white fleece so I can monitor his urine, and even after he's completely healed I want to keep him quarantined for 4...

Low Calcium Pellets/ Crude Ash in Beaphar?

It is not my intention to start a huge debate, nor to make people nervous about feeding any particular brand of pellets. I haven't been very active on the forum for the last two years, but anyone who remembers me knows that I go above and beyond to gurantee that my animals have the best quality...

Low Calcium Pellets/ Crude Ash in Beaphar?

This thread is a follow up to Jameson's urethral stone, we got the analysis back and the stone was calcium carbonate. I'm researching low calcium pellets, and to be honest I'm feeling a little overwhelmed looking at all the nutritional data. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I know that chinchillas...

    UTI/ Bladder Stone?

Update 9 days post-op: The vet removed Jameson's catheter this morning. He said that it slid right out without any issues. Jameson has urinated on his own since its removal!!! The vet will monitor him for a few more days to make sure he's continuing to do well. If he continues to do well I will...

    UTI/ Bladder Stone?

I got to hold Jameson yesterday! Best feeling ever after the week we've had! I just got a call from the vet, Jamie is continuing to make progress. So far he's leaving the catheter alone, and his urine is clear. The game plan is to leave the catheter in as long as he'll let us (7-10 days max) and...

    Bedbugs and Chins?

There are some old threads on here, and if I remember correctly bed bugs can bother chinchillas just like they do to humans. To be safe talk to the person who is going to be treating the apartment. Let him know that you have chinchillas, and ask him how long you'll need to keep them out of the...

    UTI/ Bladder Stone?

Update: Jameson is doing well! So far he's leaving everything alone, peeing, pooping, and eating on his own (with the catheter in place). They're taking him off the buprenex (spelling?) and switching him to metacam along with his antibiotic. He'll stay on sub-q fluids through the weekend, and...

    UTI/ Bladder Stone?

Thank you for the information. Yes, we are having the stone analyzed, and I won't make any dietary changes before having all the information. I just feel so helpless right now, and researching gives me something to do. According to my vet many stones are calcium based, so its a good place to...

    FN and Fleece help

The shelves are plastic, and as stated the reason we cover them is to keep the chins from chewing them. The best way to cover them is with a pillow case style liner that the chins can't get under. I used to make these when I ran a chin store, if you're handy with a sewing machine I'd be happy to...

    UTI/ Bladder Stone?

Update: Came out of surgery very well, eating on his own, pooping, bright eyed and bushy tailed according to the vet. Unfortunately he had not urinated. The vet had a difficult time but was able to get a catheter in, urine is clear so the vet doesn't think there are any blood clots. His best...

    UTI/ Bladder Stone?

The vet ran into several complications, the stone was flat which made it nearly impossible to find. He had to send catheters through both the urethra and the bladder to pinpoint its location. Additionally the stone was fused to the wall of the urethra. It took a long time but he was able to...
