Dawn, I think the reputation being ruined is that of ANY chinchilla breeder. Anyone who uses runs...anyone who has purchased from a pelting herd...anyone who has EVER medicated a chinchilla at home...cause trust me, that's where it's going. Do I agree with this breeders practices? I'm sure...

I was not basing my restrictions on any formal studies, I was basing them off of the dozens of dead kits I've seen posted about or have personally been told about by customers...over the decade that I've been in chinchillas. It's not worth the risk...

I'm with Brea, honestly I'd look at genetics and diet. If they're not related, whatsoever for a fact...check what he's feeding. If they are related, he could try switching diet for any further animals from that line but I personally would cull the whole line...

First, from the pictures your chin doesn't look small for his build. That said, I would still limit his play times...period. For reasons mentioned young chinchillas especially can over exert themselves leading to heat stroke or at the very least, less growth than expected. He's not "too small"...
