    UTI/ Bladder Stone?

I hope it works to get that stone in a better place, Brittany. We'll keep the little guy in our thoughts tomorrow.

    Aggressive Chin?

It takes just few seconds for chins to breed. I would have separate playtimes for them.

    Chinchilla Rescue

I have a life insurance policy to help care for the chins until everything can be sorted out... It isn't much, but it is enough to pay for expenses in moving them and getting everything to where it needs to be. It sounds morbid, but it makes me feel better. As long as I can care for the chins...

    Food?

Definitely get her on something better. You will be amazed at how much nicer her fur will look and how much she will fill out as she gains healthy muscle weight. :) A good feed does so much for the chins especially after being given petstore feeds that aren't that great and probably are very...

    feed cups

Those are good ideas! I've had to remove most of the cages with these types of cups because the chins remove the cups. It's too bad that there isn't a little metal tab that fits right over the bowl and is directly secured by the fastener on the ring. I've been giving away these types of...

You Know You're A Chinchilla Owner When...

You use a ShopVac to dust. Yes, I do hate to dust...but I have gotten so good at it! :) You know, I don't have any insects in my house and I haven't for years. The only bugs that I see that seem to live are small moths but I am sure that's because they like the fur that settles behind...

You Know You're A Chinchilla Owner When...

You refer to the dust covering your coffee table as "protective coating", and insist the dust keeps all forms of insects and pests away. (Despite dusting several times a week...everyone needs a little excuse when company comes over...)

    Chinchilla Rescue

2013 wasn't too terrible for chin rescue here, but 2014 has already proven to be much different. I've taken in 17 rescues in January so far. It isn't a big deal to take them in if they are young and healthy but some aren't young or healthy. Or, the previous owners just were unaware of what...

You are worried about upsetting the feelings of rodents. Hay has become your trademark hair accessory.

Help! Turns out my pine wasn't kiln dried!

Yeah...wet or damp usually means the shavings were improperly stored and allowed to get rained on. I've stopped buying shavings from places here that have done that. It doesn't rain much here and it can get very warm, so that means moldy shavings. If you have pine tar or sap in your...

    Is it just me or....

hehe I guess that she's lucky that she has such a darling personality! She sort of does look like she has bunny ears. :D

    Light colored poo?

I'd clean out the cages and see if this keeps on happening. Sometimes chins will have strange looking droppings out of nowhere, there will just be a few and then it doesn't happen again. It could be a slight change in temperature, something stressed them, someone's in heat or very hormonal. I...

    Is it just me or....

Does this little girl's ears look really huge? I don't know what happened, her mama and daddy both have normal ears. :) Hopefully she will grow into them. :D

Chins in or near Orange County, CA?

I have been contacted by a man wanting white chins in Orange County. Does anyone there have any whites available? I have a pink white boy that he would like, but with shipping and everything I don't know if it would be worth it to send a chin to CA. It's always so much easier on people to be...

Help! Turns out my pine wasn't kiln dried!

If they weren't kiln dried, they'd probably be full of pine tar and extremely fragrant. If they seem fluffy, non sticky and have a tolerable scent to them, they're probably kiln dried. Jessica - I have ended up with shavings that are wet...it makes me so mad! :P

What do you guys think of Mazuri pellets?

I've been using Mazuri for about 16 years now, I use it for my chins. I haven't had problems with soft droppings with my chins, but I may get my food from a different mill than others do. I have chins that are in their mid to late teens that have been on it their entire lives and are doing...

    Constipated

That's not good. How is his behavior now? Is he acting lethargic? You can do some belly massages for him, but if he isn't making droppings by now I worry about him having a blockage or his intestinal tract has just shut down. Usually with the drug you were given it will have an effect...

    Constipated

When you get the critical care in a couple of days, that can help in getting chins to make more droppings. The chinnie needs to be eating hay, that is the one thing that helps more than anything else. Keep giving him the gas drops and see if you can get him to keep eating his hay. Does he...

Ask for mylicon or phazyme...they both have simethicone in them without the other things that are for other problems. The mylicon has a dropper in the bottle it comes in, you don't need a prescription for this.
