    Science Selective Chinchilla

I do buy Oxbow in a 4.5kg bag however Mazuri is not available in UK. It looks like Oxbow can be substituted with Charnwood as they look very similar. People say I should avoid rabbit pellet but you are right I could get away as the breeders do as long as I do enough of research and comparison...

    Science Selective Chinchilla

People have suggested Charnwood pellets in 20kg bags

    Science Selective Chinchilla

right so I can switch to bigger bags of pellet for rabbits but they all adjusted for inflation. Too bad they don't sell chinchilla pellet in bigger bags e.g. 5 or 10kg. Do you know of any good rabbit brands?

    Science Selective Chinchilla

Hi All, I hope you are doing well. Bulk of food my chinchilla eat is actually Science Selective Chinchilla. I would say it's 65-70% of the pellet they eat. The rest is Oxbow Chinchilla Deluxe. I have noticed that from last year the price of Science Selective has ballooned by about 30% from £4.3...

    Chinchilla outside home

but do you think a chin at night would just go into pitch black bushes? I see all sorts of cats coming out of these bushes. I think at night chins are not that desperate for a hiding spot - they can simply freeze in place like bunnies do. I reckon during the day they would hide pretty quickly.

    Chinchilla outside home

Mine hid in some concrete blocks but after over 40 minutes she headed back to the doors so she didn't want to go on a proper adventure. I think if I waited enough she would return home on her own but I went out, saw her and directed her back into the house. She could easily get lost in dense...

Chinchilla Sneezed His Head Off For An Hour

I think it's down to how fine dust you use. The composition of the dust I use is mainly the size of beach sand then I add some very fine one powder like to it. Mine don't sneeze at all. This way I let them bath more often but at the same time I don't want them to get super dry what very fine...

    Chinchilla outside home

Hi All, I wanted to hear your opinion about a chinchillas who manage to make the exit. Mine has managed to go into the garden area but I don't think she ventured far but as expected she didn't respond to my calls. I reckon males would behave differently once in the open. I don't think...

Chinchillas for therapy at schools and care homes / mobile circus

I reckon these therapy people want chin to dance in a hat while holding an opened umbrella.

Chinchillas for therapy at schools and care homes / mobile circus

I agree. I think Pets4Homes website is good but there is too many spam queries what I mean by people some passerbyers who express interest in an animal but then disappear in the ether. It looks like a waste of time to converse with such people. Indeed I was thinking to advertise on FB on those...

Chinchillas for therapy at schools and care homes / mobile circus

This is what I thought. I keep an eye and perhaps such people should be educated if not reported. People need to educate more because they don't do any good to people and animals that are not up for the job. I reckon female chinchillas are out of question but I do have one female that is...

Chinchillas for therapy at schools and care homes / mobile circus

Hi All, I am in the process of rehoming two of my chinchillas and I have been contacted by some people who run business where they take animals to schools and care homes to provide some therapy. I have been contacted twice by such individuals and I am quite reluctant knowing that chinchillas...

    Husband and wife

Gotcha. I don't know if you have witness that but male father does take some of the parenthood duties e.g. he will cover the newborn with his body when mother is not around.

Female chin peeing as a deterrent

Hi again, I was thinking about this behavior. It is a female trait. I have a female who is a type of a bully to other chins. She is naturally bigger I think about 700g of weight and not a type that makes way for other chins. I don't think this behavior has anything to do with mistreatment. She...

Do chins eat more in winter?

Hi All, I was wondering if chins eat more food during winter when it's cooler and I reckon they use more energy to maintain body temperature. Best regards

    Husband and wife

Hi All, Does this exist in the chinchilla world? I have a male chin who behaves like he is missing his wife. Best regards

    Daytime activity

believe me classical music with mostly violin can be heavier on ears than heavy or death metal:D yeah, I agree. I also think that chinchillas should be in the living room where most of the action takes place not stashed somewhere in a storage room with brooms. Yes, vision is their secondary to...

    Daytime activity

Meerkat Manor LOL I have to look this up. Mine listen to classical music and occasionally they watch a movie with me but this is like once a week. I set the music daily for them as I realized sitting in this silence must be very boring. I just try to limit music with a lot of violin in it as the...

    Daytime activity

Thanks Amethyst I have to put it to a test. Of course males are the most active and their activity is from 6pm to about 5am. I reckon they don't distinguish weekdays from weekend when it's more likely someone can take them out during the day.

    Daytime activity

Hi All, I hope you are well. Do you know if a daily activity of a chinchilla owner and related noise makes the chinchilla more tired and then less active at night or it does not matter? e.g. young kids who will not let the chins sleep. They normally wake up around 6-7pm. Kids won't wait that...
