How to avoid dental disease in chinchillas

Almost always dental disease in chins is genetic. There is no true way to prevent it if that's the case. You can keep their teeth healthy by feeding a good quality feed, good quality hay, and providing wood chews for them to work their teeth on. Some people also recommend doing both loose hay...

Chinchilla Dust and Silicosis? I may have an irrational fear and I think posting here might help

I also have asthma. When I used Blue Cloud, even with a mask, I would have an asthma attack. With Blue Sparkle, I'm fine. I do wear a mask and I don't go into my chin room for a while after I dust though. Keep in mind, you're dusting a few, I dust hundreds. In your office, I'd be more...

Anal swelling - warning - photo is g

I don't think it's an actual hemorrhoid, but, if the poops are smaller it could be from straining. Smaller poops mean there is some degree of constipation going on so that could be causing the swelling. I'm not a vet, it's just an opinion, but if everything else is normal, it's a possibility.

    Liquid Diarrhea Aftermath

You can try unscented baby wipes to get the dried yuck off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I try to avoid wetting down a chin, but sometimes it has to be done. Just keep in mind that if you do somewhat bathe her, you'll need to make sure she's completely dry afterwards.

Anal swelling - warning - photo is g

My first thought would have been pyometra, but you said she's already spayed, so that's out. Does she strain when she poops? It makes me think of hemorrhoids in a human, which can occur from straining, diarrhea, hard bowel movements, etc. Is that something that might be going on here?

    Syringe feeding

I am hand feeding a couple chins right now and they get 50 mL at one sitting. Sounds like you might need to up your daily feeding amount.

Is this cage okay for a chinchilla?

It's not a bad cage, but plastic can be an issue if your chin chews. I have some chins that never touch a plastic cage and others that tried to chew their way out. You have to know your chin.

    Chinchillaville13's Chinchilla Villa

I did a Google search for some: homemade chinchilla cages - Google Search I can't post a picture personally because mine aren't homemade, but there are some really nice images here. Most people use melamine to build cages. It's easy to wipe clean and most (there's always that one) don't chew...

    Basic nutrition

There are many different types of feed and I hesitate to say which is the "best" because different feeds work for different chins. My entire herd is on Nutrena Naturwise rabbit and they do really well on it, other people feed Tradition and have excellent results, many feed Purena Rabbit, and so...

    is she pregnant?

There's no way to know for sure. Watch for changes in her body, obvious increase in size, nipples dropping, etc. Other than that, just wait. If you have the male and female together still, you need to separate them so she doesn't breed back.

Oxbow critical care - Apple Banana?

I get mine on Amazon, but it's been hard lately. My usual sources are Amazon and Walmart, but they've been out lately. I've just done a search on google and found whatever I could.

    Triple Ferret Nation Cages

I would leave their food and water where they are. They are used to them being there and don't really need them on multiple levels. 3 Floors isn't too many. If you've got the money to spend go for it. :)

    Chinchilla eye

It looks like your kit had an injury to her eye resulting in that cloudiness. I've personally never seen a chin regain vision in their eye once it reaches that stage.

Chinchillas eye got removed and is oozing!!!

If her eye was surgically removed, she shouldn't have any "opening" to flush out. When my chin had her eye removed, they sewed the socket shut to avoid this type of situation. I would for sure ask your vet about that.

How long can chin be in "burrito" blanket?

I have had to deal with fungus several times over the years and I've never done this. I use either Blu-Kote topical by itself or Blu-Kote along with a dust bath with antifungal foot powder in it. As far as being in a burrito, I handfeed chins and it takes around 15-20 minutes at a session and...

    Surgery?

Thankfully, I've never experienced this, but I wanted to say that I'm sorry you both have to deal with this. When you say he is not feeling like himself, what do you mean exactly? Is he eating, drinking, peeing, pooping? Does he still play and do chin things?
