    Animal Cribs Chinchilla

Well, I wish I would have seen that! Maybe I can find it on YouTube.

    Chinchilla Dry Ears?

If he's being dust bathed too much, dry ears can occur. Two shouldn't cause dryness though. You can use vitamin E capsules for his ears. Just punch a hole in one and rub it on the ears, being sure to rub it in. It's light and pretty absorbent so he won't be a big mess after you're done...

    Matted fur

If I had a chin that matted, I would just get as close to the skin as possible and tug the mat out. It's miserable for them and pulls on their skin for them to be so matted. They aren't super happy while having their fur pulled out, but once it's gone they are. Combing is just going to...

    Whisker chewing

Whisker chewing can be a dominance issue but it can also just be over-grooming. If all they do is whisker chew, then I wouldn't worry about it. If it escalates to fighting, then you need to separate them.

Pet Wanted looking for Chinchilla angora

There are a bunch of pages on Facebook that have angora chinchillas for sale. Just do a search for chinchilla and they pop up. :)

    He's kinda snappy?

It sounds like he's just being a chin. All chins are different. You can have one that is super friendly and one who wants nothing to do with you. He seems to still be settling in as the barking is a "warning" sound. Just keep doing what you're doing. I would advise though, not doing too...

    Pyometra

You can treat open pyometra with antibiotics, but it isn't always effective. Surgery is generally the way pyometra is handled. Was your chin diagnosed with open or closed pyometra? Closed, I would absolutely get the surgery done now. Open, you can try antibiotics but may still end up with...

    baby chins wont eat alfalfa

Interesting. No breeders up there. Just "chins as pets" folks. The sales website mentions young and growing chins. I would be okay with that, but not kits. A kit, to me, is up to that 8-week mark, maybe 10 weeks. Once they are weaned, I would throw the occasional alfalfa in there...

    baby chins wont eat alfalfa

I have had kits get diarrhea many times from alfalfa. I used to provide it for nursing moms regularly because it helps with milk production. I rarely do that anymore because of the issues with the kits. I would NOT give alfalfa to kits, but that is, of course, your choice. I don't know where...

what style of feeders do you use in your runs?

Look on this page, about midway down, and you'll see two types of feeders for runs. One has mesh on the bottom so the dust can escape and the other is a J-feeder. http://www.shootschinchilla.com/rummage-sale.htm

Do you have chin gender preference?

Nope. I don't care any more than I care about having a male versus female dog or cat. Personality, IMO, has nothing to do with their sex. I've had a lot of chins and there are good and not so good amongst both sexes.

    80% hay, moi?

Pellets and hay work on different parts of the mouth. I provide both for my herd. Even if they didn't NEEEEEED hay (which I believe they do), would you want your entire life to be nothing but a hard pellet? I will say that I have had some chins who don't particularly care for hay, but they...

    baby chins wont eat alfalfa

No, they are not supposed to have unlimited alfalfa, especially not babies. It can cause kidney stones and diarrhea. They can have unlimited timothy though. They probably just like it better, which is why they are choosing it over the alfalfa. If you are feeding a good quality chinchilla...

Do Chinchillas get bored of toys easily?

I'm sure she's just like anybody else. If she has the same thing every single day, she'll lose interest. Try using some enrichment things, like stuffing an empty toilet paper tube with hay. Make her work for it a little bit. :)

    Scared chin

I'd just like to say that smooshing does not stress them out or cause them to go crazy. I have used that method in the past, though not in a super small cage as some do. You don't leave them in there for hours, just for like 15 minutes.
