    Selling diseased animals

I think a vaccine should be developed for this. I read in some older Empress magazines of chinchilla vaccinations but for what illness, I can't remember. Perhaps if we could generate funding or find a vet who is interested in researching this in chins, we could all learn more about it and...

    bv under ebony class

TOV Ebs can be shown under the ebony class. I believe repeatedly breeding extra dark to extra dark heavily veiled animals can result in an accumulation of "veiling genes" which can cause veiling to extend too far down the sides and into the belly, even if the parents themselves had white bellies.

    Lightest survived birth weight

Everytime I have a runty baby, it's in a triplet or larger litter and the siblings are much larger in size. I think in those cases, the runt just didnt get enough nutrition before birth and often times, it is as if their mouth muscles haven't developed well enough to nurse.

    Lightest survived birth weight

My smallest surviving kit was 35 g. I have not had luck with any born smaller than that, even with handfeeding. Good luck with your little one - it will be a tough fight.

Am I really doing this wrong!?

I believe it is Dr. Crossley from the UK who published the studies on Dental caries (cavities) in chinchillas as well as other studies on dental disease/malocclusion. We don't do fruits or sweet treats here; just pellets and hay and the occasional grain-based supplement.

WA State ECBC 2013 Fall Field Day

Congrats to the newly reactivated WA ECBC branch on their first very successful show! They had an awesome turnout with attendees and breeders from CO, WA, OR, ID, CA, and Canada, with 72 standards and if memory serves me right, I think it was 55 mutations. I flew up and got in after midnight...

    Congested

Sounds like he could have a URI. With chins, it's important to get them on antibiotics to fight the infection right away! I have always had good luck with TMS (trimethoprim-sulfa) for treating respiratory infections and not causing any side-effects such as loss of appetite and the slowing of...

How cool do you keep your chin room?

I have my chin room AC set to 65 but it ranges between 65 and 70 on the days that we get triple digits.
