    Introductions for large colonies

Sorry they didn't copy over right. These were growing cages I used to use many years ago, they were about 2' deep, 4' wide, and each section was about 3 1/2 foot tall. For a pet colony I'd go with a full 2 level FN or CN or even a three level for a large colony. This is a male colony, that...

    leaves once again.

There is no list that I know of. I've never worried or considered it as there are plenty of other options that I know are healthier. Dried leaves have very little nutritional value, so basically it's just filler in their belly instead of nutritious food IMO.

    Introductions for large colonies

When starting a colony there are certain traits. I've mostly done breeding colonies, I always, always bond the females first. The best time to put them together is a new environment or at weaning time. If you bring in say 8 retired breeder females, get them from the same ranch, put them all...

introducing female chin to male chin

Agreed with above. Due to you asking about introductions, I'm going to guess that you aren't studied up on breeding, birth complications, etc. They don't need to play, they don't "love" each other and need to be together. They want to mate. Just split up play time and make sure they can't get...

    Moving and Transporting Advice Needed

Despite the thought that a chin would be happier in a cat sized carrier, they usually aren't. Those "tiny" show carriers serve several purposes, firstly they keep them safe. Imagine you hit the brakes hard because a dog runs in the road... your coffee flies, your phone flies... and your chin...

    Chinchillas as tech pets

Just can't get over this... "cement dust" is highly corrosive... :(

twitching shivering and shaking head when picked up

Was she put under for something? You said bandage. URI or pneumonia is a very common risk with putting anything down. Otherwise I'd possibly suspect infection depending on what the bandage is for...

keeping the bedding in the cage?

On the CN and FN I've used wood ones and they work great to catch mess and for something for them to chew on. I have a female who would go through on in about a month, lol. Apparently better than toys, but at least she's chewing!

List of fruits chins can eat?

My theory is why? Chins don't need treats. Shredded wheats can be used, old fashioned oatmeal, sticks... Treats are for humans, not chins. Ask ranchers who have chins that are 20 years old and will still produce what they feed, treats is never on the list.

Updates and please offer support to little girl with cancer

I've been gone for a while, I've been so busy with finishing nursing school, taking boards, and now going through my orientation process but even with that what has been keeping us the most busy is my daughter Hailey's little sister was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma ( a rare form of bone...

    Hay holders and feeders?

I have instructions on how to make a wooden feeder that hangs on the outside of the cage and they pull it through the wire underway. I just need to get the pics downloaded. I love them, easy to fill without getting into the cage, which I love. Will try to get it uploaded tomorrow!

    Opinions on water filtration system

Petsmart sold me a severely underweight chinchilla, their "vet" didn't realize that.

Email corporate. Keep asking about the paper work. Buy from a breeder.

Is anyone selling perches for $5.00

Both people with perches are in the US. I get dust from Snicker's she's great to deal with. :D

    Face paralyzed during dental filing?

Stroke is possible. Is the vet a chin vet that deals with them often? I'd say it's most likely due to the anesthesia, lack of oxygen to the brain that caused it. What did the vet have to say about it?

    Face paralyzed during dental filing?

The different is that for people they do a nerve block by injection, with chins they do gas anesthesia... I've never heard of such a thing, to do that a nerve would have to have been damaged, or there is so much swelling that there is pressure on the nerve causing it. I would almost guess it...

Is it a big fur slip on my Goldbar girl?

I say if it's working stick with it! Sounds like a good mix, different hays have different textures and promote different kinds of chewing. :D

Few broken whiskers and some hair loss around her nose? Fungal infection?

That is a great thread full of good info! It doesn't look like typical fungus, but adding a bit of powder to the dust bath can help you be sure. What kind of cage do you have? Could the nose be rubbing on the bottom of a horizontal bar?

Does this shelf make me look fat?

She's a doll, I love her. She's a little stand offish at first but once she gets used to you she's pretty sweet once you look past her initial bark trying to say "I'm sooo scary", LOL. She turned when I opened the cage, before I did her side fat roll was hanging over the shelf, lol.
