The name game..what in your chins name?

Monk, who I brought home this week and is my first chinchilla. Named so because like a monk, he is a single chinchilla with no intentions of breeding. So far his patience and tolerance quite fit the name, but I've heard stories about bratty teenage chins, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed...

    Preparing for Arrival!

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the warm wishes. Mr.Monk made it home just fine in the carrier the breeder provided. He ate a wee bit along the way, but refused water. Aside from the turns in the road, he slept most the way. So far I am shocked by his sociability with me. Before I put him in his...

    Preparing for Arrival!

Yea, the cage is set up and ready, sorry about that confusion. I meant where to find a carrier on short notice. Lol definitely seems like I'm over thinking it now. Her carrier is nice and will be very useful for when I clean his cage. So I won't hassle her over any of the fleece stuff, but I may...

    Preparing for Arrival!

Thanks! I just want to be prepared for Murphy's Law. If for some reason there is a traffic jam, better to have frozen things that could last a while. Maybe not to the excess I was thinking though lol. It will be a two hour drive from the breeders back home.

    Preparing for Arrival!

A/C works in the car and reads the temp. I am having him picked up. It's about a two hour drive. I asked her about carriers and she said she sends them home in one. As far as towels, I was going to cover them in fleece and tuck them under. Now, where to find a chin appropriate cage on short notice?

    Preparing for Arrival!

Friday is the big day to bring home my first chin, Monk, and I want to get everything right. A few things.. I can't decide if I should ask the breeder to let me arrange the carrier, since I'm in favor of the all fleece concept (less mess), or if it would be better for him to go in the all...

    Potty Trainning

Thanks for this thread! I'm bringing my chin home next week and have been wondering how he will transition from an all-shavings surrounding to all-fleece with the exception of the baking dish potty. Hopefully the breeder won't think I'm crazy for wanting some of his shavings!

    The Ferret Nation Club

Finally!!! I feel like enough has been done to my cage to share with the club. Monk won't be home until the 26th this month, but I'm trying to make sure everything is ready. Water filter and food dish are on the way. My next trip will be to walmart to buy cheap towels to put inside the liners...

Food Dish & Hay Holder Questions

Can a chinchilla poo/pee in any food dish? My plan was to go with a clamp-on coop, so that it has stability. Any words against a clamp-on coop? I worried the veggie shaped food dishes would tip over or be used as a litter pan, but then started to wonder if everything is a litter pan. The hay...

poor boy had a bad hair ring

I'm going to play videos of the hair ring checks on a big screen for my chin to watch, that way he can't say I didn't warn him. Although this won't change his reaction, I will avoid feeling like a big alien probing him.
