Are blizzard and no pill fleece any different? I’m replacing all plastic with metal or fleece. Blizzard fleece is cheaper than no pill fleece.

Is there an actual difference in safety of fleece for chinchillas? Blizzard is cheaper but non-pill just sounds safer. I would hate to upgrade to another health hazard. Thank you for any help in understanding 😊

Anti pill fleece is just that, it's fleece that doesn't pill when worn or washed. Blizzard fleece is imitation Polar fleece (name brand designed to mimic real sheep fleece), it can be anti-pill but it's not necessarily, it all depends on the quality which can vary from brand to brand. Good quality blizzard fleece is normally more expensive then anti pill fleece.

In case you don't know "pills" are those little fuzz balls that form on the fabric, those are not good since the chin can end up chewing them off and swallowing them, as well as it gives the fleece a texture so it can increase the chances the chin will decide to chew the fleece. One basic way to check if the fleece is anti pill or not is to run a hard plastic card or something similar over the fabric, if it's anti pill it should not have any little fibers come up or off.

Thank you for your very thorough answer. I don’t think any I’ve made so far have pills but I will be checking them all tonight to be sure.

The blizzard fleece in my area is available through Walmart and Hobby Lobby. It looks very cheap. I bought all of my anti-pill fleece at Joanne Fabrics when it was on a very good sale. I use a paint squeegee to “rake up” the mess Waffles’ cage, but most of the cage is lined with floor tile. No pilling has occurred on the anti-pill fleece. Tile is easier to clean. I just made “mats” of the fleece lined with (halved) adult incontinence bed pads. Easy and cheaper in the long run?
