These things should be considered necessities when considering adding a chinchilla to your household.
  • Qualified chinchilla vet - in case of emergency, but needed up front
  • Safe & appropriately sized cage
  • Fresh quality pellets - fed freely
  • Distilled or filtered water - given freely
  • Fresh, dry, high-fiber, low-protein hay - given freely
  • At least 2 types of safe, effective chews
  • Indoor, temperature/humidity controlled environment
  • Environment that is safe, and quiet enough to allow for sufficient daytime rest
  • Regular, out of cage time for exercise & bonding
  • Safe exercise wheel for in cage exercise (strongly recommended) - 15" diameter, solid surface, non-plastic
  • Quality dust for bathing in appropriate container
  • Appropriate & safe cage accessories
