    Dehumidifier

I have the Frigidaire FFAD7033R1 70-Pint Dehumidifier with Effortless Humidity Control, White which I bought on Amazon. While it is a very good dehumidifier, it has raised the room temperature by two degrees each time I've used it. It rarely gets that hot in our area so I don't worry about heat...

Does my chin hate me now?

Don't give up. Slowly win her over with experiences that she would interpret as exciting or comforting.

    Chinchilla Insurance

I don't have pet insurance for my chinchillas since I wasn't able to find a good company that offers insurance for them. You could consider putting aside a set amount (such as 50 a month or 100 a month) just in case of emergencies.

How do I handle my chin without losing it's trust?

Reward with a Snack I also like to leave a rose hip petal in the cage for her to discover when she has hopped back in by herself, so that she finds another reason to be happy when playtime is over.

My chinchilla keeps trying to get out of his cage?

Rather than Picking Up the Chin... My chin doesn't like to be picked up. I have a chin-safe "cat-sized travel carrier cage" that I prepare for her to walk into right before I clean her cage. I have never used this carrier for any other animal except for her. Most recently, I sprinkled a...

    Playtime

If Hermes is low-energy when in the cage, you could also consider the time of day you are greeting him. You could be saying hi at a time that it is natural for him to sleep.

    Family wants to hold chin?

Apart from it being unsafe to let your chin free-roam because of chewing risks (electric cords and such), they poop a lot so poop would get everywhere. Also, they have very fragile bodies so you would run the risk of it being stepped on accidentally.

    Deciding a name

Sometimes you write a list of possibilities and then when you meet them, a totally different name just comes to you.

    Too much hay?

I agree with Amethyst but one thing also is to make sure you are putting the hay in a vessel that they cannot sit on top of. They could be peeing or pooping on it without your knowledge.

    New chinchillas fur loss

I saw that you are resistant to bringing the chin to the vet but you can look around for a chinchilla specific vet and at least call on the phone for advice. You wrote that there was a cat climbing on the cage. This definitely caused stress and after fur loss, it can take quite a while to grow...

Should i pick him up and get him out of cage

If you grab him, he may trust you less. Make sure there is nothing wet in the bathroom because they're not supposed to get wet. -and make sure the toilet is closed because chins can jump very high and he could fall in. When I clean my chin's cage, I put my chin's travel carrier (cat carrier)...

Do they ever refuse chew sticks?

I find that sometimes they completely ignore it and then demolish it when they are in the mood to do so.

    Smelly chinchillas

This definitely sound like a necessary vet visit. If you choose to adopt these chins, make sure to feed them the proper chin diet only and keep the cage really clean. Also, they poop a LOT so make sure to pick up the poop 1-2 times per day even when not doing a complete bedding replacement...

Proud owner of new Chinchilla :) Questions!

The Chin Wheel is a great wheel. You may also want to look at the Silver Surfer. I have both and it seems that the Silver Surfer spins a lot easier. The Chin Wheel seems heavier to me. The good thing about the Chin Wheel is that it has a wider running surface. Sound wise, they aren't silent...

    New Chin

It will take time. Keep showing the chin a non-threatening environment and don't force the pace to be faster than it is ready for. Another thing to consider is that the sounds of the pet store are very different from the sounds of your home or lack thereof. Some people like to play really...

Any tips would be appreciated! :)

Sounds to me like you're doing a pretty good job. It takes them a while to get used to things, even the water bottle since it is new. Just make sure that the water bottle is dispensing water correctly.
