Onset of kidney disease, dental disease - prognosis?

Henry stopped eating, so we took him to the exotics vet expecting he'd need his teeth burring again. Three spurs, Ok, fine, left him to have them burred. When we got the call back though, the vet said that it was advanced dental disease, that two teeth had fallen out, and that his bloods didn't...

At a loss with sick chin

Posted this a while back: https://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/threads/reluctant-to-eat-x-ray.39649/ Since then he continued having ups and downs, but was I thought improving. He ate a little more solid food, his favourite things, chewed up an apple twig, then, that same week, suddenly stopped...

    Reluctant to eat (X-ray)

Could try that, yup, he was on an antibiotic for a week for the cut. Update: The specialist said that his mouth has healed, and that the blood tests came back Ok. He's been given Loxicom, and seems to very gradually be eating more, but still not as much as he should be, and mostly still the...

    Reluctant to eat (X-ray)

Thank you. Update: He was lively and ate a lot tonight voluntarily from the syringe -I wondered if they could eat too much at once but didn't want to not give him more when he seemed hungry-, but then went quiet after, he's at least moved to sleep in his house, though. I'm not sure he's pooing.

    Reluctant to eat (X-ray)

I'd noticed for a while that Henry wasn't eating everything, especially all his herbs, but since I'd got few nicer bits in and he was eating those and still eating harder food incl. pellets, and I think more of them, I thought he was being fussy at first and maybe just bored of some of the...

Chinchilla off food, seems swollen underneath

Thanks, vet has seen him now. It's not really what I was thinking it might be, apparently he has a cut in his mouth, I'm just hoping it doesn't go deeper and isn't an ulcer. He was eating fine up till Sunday night, I don't know if he might have cut himself on a toy. He's had an anti-inflammatory...

Chinchilla off food, seems swollen underneath

Henry seems to have gone off his food and not drinking, he's accepted being handfed mushed pellets, about 10ml, and taken a couple gojis, but not with the usual enthusiasm. Some very small poos this morning. There's been some teeth grinding though he tends to do that after gojis but it was more...

Belated Christmas pics + update (microphthalmia chin, for those who haven't seen one)

Hi, here's some late Christmas pics of my lot, Henry (standard), Anna Maria (black velvet) and no-longer-so-little Charlotte (standard)! Linking to the Photobucket album directly because it drives me mad faffing around shrinking them...

    Chinchilla suddenly became aggressive

Do you have the other chins' scent on you when you're going to his cage? I've found with mine that how they react to other chins out of the cage is not necessarily how they react to (what they think is) them in their cage.

    Youtuber's Chinchilla 'Situation'

It took my Henry nearly a year to become more confident with the girls (who he's not allowed to play with, only sniff through bars under extremely close supervision) despite how calm and friendly they were towards him (though they're brevi-type chins and a bit alarmed at times by how...

    Seizure?

Thanks, that's good to know. Doing Ok with handfeeding, and he'll eat the mushed pellets mix if I leave some in a bowl in his cage as well. He's otherwise seemed quiet the last few days, disorientated at times, his ear going down and red again (I thought maybe he felt warm underneath too)...

    Seizure?

Got through it Ok, they were able to do it quite quickly. He seemed awake enough when brought him home but is very tired now. The X-rays looked Ok, no root overgrowth, ears Ok, and we should be getting the blood test results back tomorrow afternoon. The vet put him on oral baytril for suspected...

    Seizure?

He'd been worse for a few days, especially yesterday up till the evening (he was playing but kept going flat and out of it very quickly), I took him to see the exotics vet on Friday. His ear went down and red pretty much as we got there, she said he didn't seem quite present in the room. They...

    Seizure?

This morning he'd been squeaking as though uncomfortable, seemed to be when bending over for corophagy, at 10:36 he whimpered and was twitching very violently in his sleep, he responded after being called to repeatedly and came forward and took seed pods treat from me, hopped down went to toilet...

    Seizure?

Saw the vet again when went to pick up more tablets and discuss medication. Some very bad news, the vet looked at his eyes and thinks he's lost his sight, I'm still just in shock really, my poor baby. The vet suggested he might have a brain tumour or lesion, of course I can't stop thinking what...

    Seizure?

Ah, Ok, can do I think, thanks for the suggestion. The cranberries aren't a usual treat, it was just in case it was his blood sugar that caused the seizure, and to get him to take the first tablet (as it turns out, he'll take them anyway if I just give them him, which makes me feel kind of...

    Seizure?

Update: He's seeming out of it quite a lot. I know that's kind of a vague way to describe it, especially when he's still responsive, perfectly capable of coming and taking a treat off me and jumping on his perch, he just doesn't seem right. While that could be the medication, he was seeming like...

    Seizure?

Oh gosh, thank you for the warning and the alternative suggestions, Tanya, it would never even have occurred to me that something like that could go rancid. I gave him some yesterday as well, packet well within date but I don't think I'll give him any more just to be on the safe side. I did...

    Seizure?

There was also a couple of times I thought I'd seen him twitching, but not sure if a sign of discomfort, shifting position or if he was going to clean himself then got distracted, wouldn't confidently say it wasn't a mild seizure though. His back end has seemed held a bit sort of flatter (vet...

    Seizure?

Agreed, I'm inclined to think it's at least two, though, given that it looked like what happened before when I thought he'd been concussed (it wasn't an instant reaction then, he ran off then it happened), and started in the same way with him curling up nose towards tail (of course I feel...
