    Newbies Breeding

Tunes, yes it did come from my ip address, and you'll find an apology from my teenage daughter in your private messages. Speaking on my own behalf, some people do share computers. Some people do share internet. You could have asked for an explanation before jumping on me. I've been posting here...

    Babies on the way

I don't breed, but want to some day. I have become good friends with a small breeder who I got one of my babies from. I ask her a million questions, so I only know what I have learned from her. She moves her moms to the maternity/baby cage the last couple weeks of pregnancy. When they're getting...

    Best carrier for chinchillas

I wouldn't recommend either of the carriers you have listed from Petco. I have the first one. I used it for weighing them until they started chewing it! It didn't take long either! The Ryerson's sell great carriers and they're $11 a hole. So, a 2 hole carrier would be $22. Not sure about...

    time to seperate?? =[

I had a 1 year old chin in with a 3 month old baby. They got along, cuddled, slept together. I thought the older one was being a bit motherly. After a few weeks, I noticed the baby looking a bit thin. I stayed up late one night and saw the older wasn't letting the baby eat or drink. This had...

    Different sizes

I got my scale at WalMart for a little less than $20.00. I have a small critter carrier. I open one end, set it down in the cage, they usually climb in. If not, I put them in and zip up the end. Weigh them and subtract the weight of the carrier. I do weights every Tuesday and it only takes 10...

    Leaky water bottles anyone?

I have tried almost every water bottle in the pet stores, and they have all eventually leaked. Even my lixit bottles are starting to leak! Thinking of paying Jan a visit and switching to the Edstrom bottles. Does it take the chins a while to get used to using them? (even though 4 of my chins are...

    Ryerson supplement and soft poops

That's just what she told me. I visit them about once a month. I use a heaping 1/2 tsp. and don't have any problems. Maybe just give yours a bit less for a week or so until they get used to it?

    Ryerson supplement and soft poops

Jan recommends 1/2 tsp. once a day. I have given my chins their supplement for months. The only time I has soft poos was when I had a 6 week old baby eating it. I took it away from her and poo went back to normal.

how to make DIY chin wheels =]

I went to a rather large Michael's yesteday. Biggest they carry is 16x3 :( Guess I'm ordering some Fat Daddios! Can't wait to get them all up. I'm pulling all my cages apart today. Scrubbing everything down. Washing all their fleece. Was hoping to be able to put new wheels in all of them. Oh...

What type of hay do you like to use?

I give loose timothy hay always. I put new alfalfa cubes in once or twice a week. I have a couple that love them, and a couple that could care less about cubes.

    Chins and Plastic Cages

She did that in 6 days??? Wow, she's a determined little bugger!! I had plastic cages just for a few weeks before I switched to Ferret Nations. Mine never chewed, but I switched anyway. I love knowing I don't have to worry about plastic impaction, and I have cages that will last for years!

how to make DIY chin wheels =]

I think the cake pans are a great idea as long as they're the appropriate size. I, however, kind of agree on the gluing part. I know it's your wheel and your choice. I drilled holes through my feed pan and it's extremely secure. I didn't use the block of wood at all. I know there's no way...

how to make DIY chin wheels =]

I tried Pat Catan's today. No luck on cake pans :( I'm heading to a bigger town tomorrow and I think they have a Michaels's there. Gonna try there before I order online. I hate paying shipping! Hope I find some! If not, found a site that sells the Fat Daddios for under 25 bucks.

how to make DIY chin wheels =]

So, did you end up sing a lazy susan bearing? The cake pan is a great idea! I never thought of that. I made my own wheel using a feed pan. I kind of don't like it because it slopes downward a bit. The lazy susan bearing is a bit noisy, but I've gotten used to it. Wondered if that's what you...

    odd sleeping position

That's adorable. I have one that always sleeps with his head in his terra cotta flower pot lol.

quick question about the marble slabs

I use granite. Bought 12"x12" granite tiles at Menard's for like a buck. Lowe's cut them with their wet saw for me for free.

    Pear Clips???

I did look at Pat Catan's. I couldn't find any. I found some online, but I hate paying for shipping! If I can go into a store and buy it, I'd rather. Then I can see it before I buy it also. I'll try Lowe's this week :)
