My little grumpy passed today, after a fight with an RI. I'm absolutely devastated and can't really think through the meds they gave me.
Someone help me remember what I'm supposed to do now. I have three other chins one who was bonded and in the same cage.
I pulled out all hammocks ledges...
I think we can all guess where Nibbles got her name.
Snuggles and grumpy look exactly the same. Most people ask which one is which and the response is try to pet it. If I hear a keck I know they were talking about grumpy lol!!
Tessa came with her name.
I can say baby rats need to be stimulated to pass waste. So it won't hurt to give it a go.
The fur issue could be stress. I have a chin when if my husbandry is slightly off she chews her fur off. Fur chewing isn't harmful, just looks funky. IF that's what it is, I would just leave it be. Do...
One of my rescues has a spot like that, more towards the outer ear. It didn't feel different/thicker when I examined it...but now I'm worried.
If you do figure it out, please let us know!!
Thank you dawn. That was pretty much everything I held back before. I respect you so much for finding the strength to make the hard choice. Thank you for sharing your unique insight and for the pictures.
Hugs

Tapping usually makes things worse imo. If mine bites while I'm trying to pick them up, that's my fault and I can't really complain. If mine bit for no reason the most I would ever do would be to blow a little puff of air at them. It works just as well. But I find that if I leave my hand there...
Sweetie I'm so sorry. I wish I could just reach through the screen and hug you. What I'm going to say is so painful, and I'm tearing up for you.
Your chin is in pain. Right now, when he eats, when he plays. Sometimes animals hide their pain so well that we want to believe there is more time...
In my opinion, the malo vet was correct. The roots look to be pushing through his skull now. They look pretty close to his eye as well. I know it's not the answer you want to hear....
But give him a play date with a ginormous dust bath like he has never seen before, and bring him back to the...
Whew. Thank you guys I needed some tough love. I've been so emotional I almost dive headfirst down that slippery slope. If anyone is in jersey and interested I can pass the info along, but I'm full to the rafters and can't handle more.
Well I was browsing a certain listing site and there are a pair of Chins on it in central nj. A male and a female in a plastic cage.
I am up to four chins, in three cages. I quite honestly don't have the money time or space for more, much less possible kits. And 150 is... Well... I'm sitting...
Get him to the vet. Chins are very good at hiding injuries.
I recently got into a wreck, thought all was good with my rats because I had secured their travel cage to the seat, but when I opened it up to check on them, one had a bloody nose.
It's too risky imo to not get them.
I'm sorry for your situation! I know how frustrating that can be. Sadly I'm no where near you, but perhaps you can find somewhere online that has it in stock and call them to explain your situation? For my dog supplies I've been able to pay extra for an emergency overnight shipment of just one...
I have four chins, in three cages. I personally believe in attempting to pair- but life gave me hermits! My singletons are much friendlier though, so there is that to consider.
