What pellets are you switching from? If there is a difference in the nutrition levels or ingredients, that can be the cause.

I get orchard grass from kmshayloft; she refers to it as bluegrass. It is not as cheap as buying a bale but I have no where to store that much hay anyway.

When I painted the dye on, I just let it air dry. If you are going to dunk/soak it in dye then I'd put it in the oven at 200 or 250 for a couple hours each side. Also I've use koolaid to dye pumice rocks or loofah and I don't think it'd work too good for shelves if you want the color to show.

I use vitacritter colorant for all my toy parts and I use to color shelves with it too. For the shelves, I just painted it on. I use 1" x 8" pine for ledges which really translates to 3/4" x 7.25" if I made full shelves for my cage instead of just ledges, I'd probably see if I could make them...
