A return visit is the best option (and I'd still try to rule out mites). We've been having a lot of skin issues in our herd, and the reasons and treatments can vary. If at first it doesn't work, be persistent and return to the vet for option two.

I'd keep him away from the aspen but he would probably feel more comfortable in his cage. Keep him on a pillow case liner as long as he can get around okay and keep the temperature of the cage nice and toasty (76F). Keep feeding him and keep give him fluids even if he is drinking on his own...
To echo what others are saying - until you figure it out you must ensure she is both eating and drinking. The risk of fatty liver disease is always there when an animal decides not to eat for whatever reason and that will just exacerbate things. Syringe feeding is a must if there's no other way...
