I don't know if this is the right place to post this, if not Admins can feel free to move it. I just want to get some opinions.
I had someone who was supposed to come pick up a cage from me today. I got up bright and early so I could clean it out, get it presentable, and start cleaning house so they wouldn't think we lived in a barn (God it feels that way). Even with an achy back, I got up like a trooper and hauled the enormous cage outside to dump shavings, then spent a good hour cleaning it. I even went ahead and made plans to go to my doctor tomorrow because silly me was so faithful they'd show up. Now, about 30 minutes before scheduled pick up, I get an e-mail saying 'srry, need to reschedule for tomorrow'. As you can imagine, I'm some what frustrated. I was really relying on them to come get it today.
Do you think that people who schedule pick ups and avoid them should be charged extra each day until pick up?
That's what I'm seriously thinking. I told them they could have the cage for $10, I need it gone by Sunday so I can have room for the FN cage so it's really a great offer considering brand new it's $70 and I even made mods to it so that it has an extra level. I'm thinking about jacking up the price now since I have to alter my plans to 'cater' to them. Has anyone else considered doing this?

Hmm if you to jack up the price they might change there mind then your gonna be stuck with that cage and th FN cage. so im not sure if that would be best for you. You can always e-mail them back and explain that your gonna go to the dr so they will have to wait till after the dr appt

Did you put the cage on craigslist? I get no shows and reschedules all the time from that site. It is SOOO frustrating! :hair:I go to garage sales and re-sell on eBay and CL to make a bit of extra money and I cannot tell you how many times people have not shown up.

I would just email them and let them know that your schedule will not allow them to come out tomorrow. They need to come today or the cage could be sold to someone else.

YES! The evil CL. Ugh. Not even my doctors are working with me on this one. I'm so tired, I've been running the roads since Saturday with trying to help my fiance find a place, get power and cable turned on, find furniture, etc while staying on a budget. It's even worse that I'm trying to get a ton of stuff sold so that I'll have room for the FN cage. I just can't get a break this week.

I can't tell you the number of times I've offered stuff for sale on craigslist and had no-shows. I had one person cancel/no-show 3 times over a $25 dollar coffee table.
Now when I post stuff I list it as first come first serve or if I just want it gone I list it as free and in the driveway. :winkers:

Think about this and the person tring to reschedule their life might be as hectic as yours, or they might just be the inconsiderate ### you feel they are.

My point is: I never make an appointment unless I know 100% I can keep it. Yeah, things come up such as broken down cars, but even when that happens to me, I find another way such as grandma, fiance, parents, etc. I'm not the one who suggested the pick up date, they did. And further into the e-mail, they mentioned they're getting a ferret this afternoon so apparently they can go get a ferret but they can't come pick up a cage on time. It's just frustrating. I've even went so far with the FN cage as to plan two weeks ahead to give her and myself time to prepare since it's a 3 1/2 hour drive. I just hate putting something on hold that someone else is interested in just to be bailed out on.

I'm the same way as you Tiffany, if I say I'm going to be somewhere at 10:00, absent my car blowing up or my dying on the way there, I am going to BE THERE at 10. If something happens, I still try my best to find a way over there to make my appointment.

I hate the people like the ones you mentioned. When I was adopting out my rabbit a while ago, I had the same crap pulled on me, several times. Oh they'll be there at 10. 10 comes and goes. Some never even called to let me know, so I moved on to someone else, because if they didn't have the courtesy to call (or email, or somehow let me know) then they're not someone I want with my pets. Obviously, it's different with a cage, but still, it just peeves the crap out of me when people reschedule (sometimes several times) to come pick something up.

What especially kills me -do they not think I have anything else to do? I have people that want to reschedule 400 times, and say they can ONLY come one day this week at 1 pm. No flexibility whatsoever. I assume I'm supposed to sit home and not go to class/work so I can just wait for them?

I wouldnt charge more. While I do see your reason for doing that, I could also see the people being like "well I wanted it for $10, if it's more I don't want it" and then you're stuck finding another buyer. I feel your frustration though...

AMEN! Preach it. It agitates me SO bad when people are late. I feel like I'm late if I'm not 30 minutes early. I think I'm obsessive compulsive, but when I'm late some where, I feel like everyone is just irked with me because I'm usually irked at myself. They were going to use my cage for the ferret, so I don't know what in the world they're going to do with the ferret! $10 for this cage is amazing. After I cleaned it and the level that I built into it, it looked brand new out of the store. They can't top it, I guarantee.

You left out an important detail, since we are only talking 10 bucks and it has unconvinced you so much I would not reschedule and give the cage to the humane society or similar organization if you can't keep it until someone else can come get it.

I agree, that is quite frustrating... I'm much the same way about keeping appointments. I do feel there are exceptions for rescheduling, such as emergencies, un-driveable weather... but the buyer should notify the seller as much in advance as possible. As far as repricing... it could go either way, but since they already got the ferret, I have the feeling they'd say "forget it" if you raised it.

My other biggest peeve with CL is those peeps who email 2 seconds after I post with the "I gotta gotta gotta gotta have it RIGHT NOW!!" I then email them my address and 1/2 hour later get a reply of "ohhhhh your x amount of minutes away thats to far for me to drive" :bangdesk:UGH!! Why do these people NOT see that I post where I am located twice in the listing???

Now I only email my zip code and tell them you can come between this time and this time. If you do not show or cancel next person gets it. CL is can be sooooo annoying but I make some cash off it. I just seem to need more patience..

I think you mean 'inconvenienced' or something else, unconvinced just doesn't seem right. The reason I'm so spastic about the cage being sold is because all the money I get from the cages is helping me to cover the cost of the FN and the gas to go up there. If they don't want the cage, they should tell me so, that way I can at least schedule a temporary loan from my mother until someone does want the cage, then pay her back.

I'm amazed by how inconsiderate people have become. I don't understand why you would bother to tell someone you will take something and not even write or call to say you changed your mind.

When I was selling chins I would sit around and wait patiently for the people to arrive and had a couple call or write shortly before their appt. to say casually " I can't make it...need to reschedule." I just wasted all that time but o.k.... I'm a planner but some people are spur of the moment. I think "spur of the moment people" need to be more considerate of the planners LOL

Oh goodness, too true. I've been tempted to slap my fiance six ways from Sunday for being extremely late. Especially on Valentines day *rolls eyes*. I'm definitely a planner myself, if I say I'm going to be there at a certain time, you best believe I'll be at least 15 minutes early. Now, just to throw my fiance off so we can actually GET there on TIME, I'm starting to say "Oh we have to be there by 2:30" when we don't need to be there until 3:30. It's starting to get us places on time though, let me tell ya!

If they do not cancel in a resonable amount of time I have gotten to the point where is goes back up for sale. I ahve had several people recienly ask me to hold a chinchilla for them to come see on the weekend, they don't show I wait a hour then call and they have been like oopp sorry today didn't work. Well they already wasted enough of my time so too bad for them. I can be understanding, things do come up but man there are some just lame excuses latley.

Some people are inconsiderate. I offered a person a cage for free that she needed right away for a rabbit. She is about 45 mins from my house I told her I need to get rabbit pellets so that would be 20 mins closer to her house. She never responded back or anything. Now I am going to donate this cage to the animal shelter that I just started to volunteer at.

I feel for you guys going through the house thing. It's all-consuming.

I'm with Kristy, if they don't show or contact me at the scheduled time I take the next e-mail in line.

Haven't had too many issues with CL here, they usually show up with cash in hand. I'm constantly amazed at what people will pay for. Just sold 15 25' long rusty steel pipes (rusted together in a bundle) for $25.

Best part was, they brought out a forklift and hauled it away. No work on my part. Whoo!

Not to add to the list of frustrations with people on craigslist (and other classified sites), but...

That's another thing I hate. Whenever I'm listing something, at least ONE person calls me from...say... Texas... or Arizona... and my ads all clearly say "the degus/chinchillas/cage/whatever is in Munster/Indianapolis, Indiana, and we will not ship or deliver." Most times I also put a zip code because I've found that people will drive to me from about an hour or two (or 8, once) away and they want to mapquest it. Makes me wonder how well they read the REST of the ad if they missed the "located in..." part.

Or the people who see the ad and email me "what's a degu?" and then expect, without doing any research on their own, that I will just magically provide every piece of info they ever wanted to know on degus. But if I say, oh this is a good website, here's my care sheet, read these, "oh we don't have time for that, can't you just email me the important stuff?" No, I can't. It's ALL important stuff.

And my #1 thing is the people that don't tell you when they've changed their mind or something (getting back on point here). I can't count the number of times I've listed something for sale, only to have 10 people tell me they're interested, and then eventually I just never hear from them again. A little consideration, please, as I don't know if I'm supposed to hold it for the person or not... so now I just move on if it's been more than like 2 days... I can't wait forever.

I used to give the people like a WEEK from my last email before I'd move on. Not anymore. I've only had ONE instance where an animal ended up going to someone I'd given up on, but in most cases, if I haven't heard from them in like 2 days, I find I'm not GOING to hear from them. But whatever happened to consideration? I mean would it kill them to send an email being like "you know what? I decided I'm no longer interested." I mean that's what I would do...

Like the other day we were looking to adopt a dog off craigslist...we emailed back and forth several times, and I eventually emailed her saying "I can come get him at this time" (it was quite a bit later in the day, the same day) and I never heard back again. I understand some people adopt out dogs to the first person who shows up on their doorstep (I don't think this is the best practice, but moving on...), but I would have at least appreciated an email being like "oh he's gone. I already gave him to someone." Nope, nothing. Couldn't even spare the email. I mean MY parents taught me to be polite and don't leave people hanging and that kinda thing.... is that just not taught anymore???

Ok, sorry, end rant.

Absolutely agreed greychins. I'd love a little consideration as well. I've had people e-mail me saying "Where are you located" When it says TWO TIMES where I'm located as in City as well as Zip Code on the ad. I'm just boggled every time they do this and so tempted to say "Maybe if you're too dumb to read an ad, you're too dumb to pick up a cage." I'm nicer than that though (At least I'd like to think so). But I've had several people recently e-mail me with "Yeah, I want the cage, how much" and when I say $40, which is a VERY reasonable price for Aiko/Rini's cage (I put it up for sale as well since they'll be in the FN cage, upper level) they never e-mail back. This cage is enormous, if they don't like the price then I encourage them to try and find a cheaper one (Or build a cheaper one for that matter) else where, they won't. But I'd at least like an e-mail saying "I think it's too expensive, but thanks" So I'd know to go ahead and delete the message so I could keep up with who is interested or who isn't. The person who wanted the small cage has decided they want one of my big ones and said they'd come by and get it Monday, so I told the woman I'm getting the FN cage from I had to reschedule (Four days ahead of time) and explained the situation to her and sent her a down payment just to let her know I'm still interested and have every intention of getting it and explained the money I get from these cages is going to cover the rest of the cost, she completely understood. I wish I'd get the same respect from people who want things from me *Sigh*
