Am I the only one who gets EXTREMELY annoyed when someone comes over and says 'AHHHH! OH MY GODDD! YOU HAVE BUNNIES?!? THEY'RE SO CUTEEEEEE!'

Maybe its just me, but it makes me want to yank my hair out, lol. :hair:

Me too! Or when people call my tortoise a turtle! Or my sugar gliders, they cal them squirls!

no one here has ever called them bunnies. I did have a very drunk buddy of my husband say "whoa little bears once..."

Aren't Sugar gliders Flying squirls? So it really doesn't matter.... :)

I have people call them MICE or RATS!!!! I hate it!

I actually had someone ask if Trixie was a gerbil!!! When I had Scooter, my guinea pig, someone called HIM a bunny once.

Sugar gliders are not flying squirrels or even a type of flying squirrel. They are a marsupial from Australia and the Indonesian islands. So, yes, it matters to a lot of sugar glider owners when their gliders are called "squirrels". ;)

I've had people call my chinchillas "bunnies", "squirrels", and "mutants". People just don't know what to think of them. My boyfriend's younger brother told me that the chinchillas' fur feels like "a million baby eyelashes" LOL

Just about every stranger I've encountered has made an awkward joke about my pelting Chloe after I tell them she's a chinchilla. I'm like hahaha, right yes, that's why I'm building/buying her a ton of stuff--so I can kill her and make her into a coin purse or a single sock or something. You've figured out my evil plan. Go you.

I did have a friend ask if she was a bunny from my facebook picture (which is my profile picture here as well). That picture is very blurry and not clear, and she kind of does look like a bunny, so I understood that instance.

Most people straight out ask me what she is instead of trying to guess.

EDIT: haha, a million baby eyelashes. That's a pretty accurate description though.

I call my Chin a "Squabbit" after having a customer mention that he looked like a Rabbit and Squirrel bred together lol. And that's all I can think of everything I look at them now :p

But yea, I know the feeling. I usually get asked if my Chin is rat... after the 3rd time I've had to stop myself from yelling "Does he really look like an effin' rat to you?" ...a rat? ...really? :(

I guess what bothers me the most is when people call my goats.....sheep. It isn't like goats are rare. Are people really that uneducated?

That's bad. Maybe if someone grew up in an urban place and were never really exposed to goats? Or sheep for that matter since you can clearly tell a goat isn't a sheep if you've ever seen sheep.

I think that's the issue with chinchillas. People just aren't exposed to them.

But I do think it's a little unflattering on the person who calls an animal another animal since it shows they obviously don't know what either animal looks like. Why guess when you can just ask? I might think it was weird if a person came up to me when I was with a goat and asked what it was but I most certainly wouldn't think they were less intelligent for it.

people that have seen my chinchillas they usually say '' look at the two huge big rats'' or they're so scary looking or ugly. I happen to think my babies are adorable =) i think chinchillas are so adorable

wow never had my chinnies called rats....but i own rats. People go 'aww' at my rats til they know what they are *rolls eyes* i hate ratty predjudice, i understand not everyone likes rats, but i hate how people sometimes goo over them then change their mind when they know its a rat! Rats are so cute!

Chinnies i've only had ''guinea mouse' which is an accurate kind of look...part guinea pig...part mousey. Most people just ask me ''what is this?!..a chinchilla? ohhh...awwwwwww"

I now have another challenge entirely as people have heard i have degus and now are like ''what are they like?" erm....face of a squirrely, kind of a rat body, but the mentality and that of a chipmunk...i dread to think what concoction they picture in their head as my goos are lovely!

I've had only one person look at the pics of my chinnies and call them "Rats". I didn't like her even before that comment, but now I really don't.

On Halloween, one of my cages was visible from the front door. I had a lot of kids ask me about my bunnies. I just politely told them that those aren't bunnies, they're chinchillas. After that, the kids usually thought that they were cool.

I don't get annoyed, because I actually have rabbits. :D

I once had someone ask what kinds of animals you breed together to get chinchillas, though.

I got this often too! I hated it! I still get the jokes from the same person. Every time she sees him she calls him fur coat. I want to hit her a little more every time she says it! :hair:
