I am fostering as many Chins as I can I am trying to rehome a breeding herd. Out of this batch of Chins I have one really nice female that is missing an eye and her whole tail.

What would cause a chin to lose her whole tail? I know our Aunt would have the answer she bred them but she passed away a year ago.

Any ideas what happened?

Well someone one got back to me on this no tail topic and said it could have been an accident but it could have lost it at birth. If a Chinchilla has a hard time giving birth she will pull the baby out by whatever she can grab if it is the tail the baby could lose it for life if mama pulls too hard.

It did not seem to bother my fosters at all.

It often is due to a birthing injury. If a kit is born backwards the mother may pull them out by the tail, biting it off. Chins adjust great to missing tails, so i would not worry about it
