Chinny Preference?

Last time Sparta was running low on his pellets I had to run to the store and grab more food, there was not any pellets available so I ended up taking some of the Katee Timothy Hay. When I was giving him the pellets he would eat but not much, now it doesn't take him long to finish off his whole bowl of the hay. Is it just a preference of his? I am a little concerned with how much and how fast he is eating. We end up filling is bowl twice a day and some of it does end up on the floor of his cage and around is food bowl. Should I be worried?

He should get unlimited hay and pellets. Some chins eat more hay and some eat more pellets, just depends on the chin.

We've only given hay for a day or two when we didn't get food when we expected it. It only happened once so it's not a regular thing. Both are best but a few days of not having pellets won't hurt them either.
