Riven - I'm sorry to hear about your Yorkie. 14+ years is a long life!
Oh, and how are alpacas? There's a pasture not too far away that houses a few of them.
They're so funny looking.

As far as the dog I was originally talking about, we're going to foster him for his heartworm treatment.
He's very bad off. The shelter is setting up fundraisers to get him taken care of as the treatment is very expensive at this point. We also have a few things running for people we can reach out to personally.
There's also a vet who may be interested in donating some work for him.
Fingers crossed the he does well. (:

I, myself, have 8 chinchillas, 2 degus, and 4 chihuahuas. All of which are my responsibility. Pretty much the only help I get with them is when my parents let them out to go potty during the day when I'm at work. Everything else is on me.

My parents have 1 chihuahua, who's 12. Then we have 3 cats that belong to all of us.

EDIT: 8 chinchillas not 9 anymore (Lost Tucker at the end of Jan.) It was 9 for so long that I'm still not used to saying 8

I have a fish, two hamsters (a robo and a winter white), an iguana, and a chinchilla. I agree with everyone else. You know if you have enough time to devote to another pet and if you have enough money to give another pet the proper care. It sounds like you have a good support system, so if everyone's on board and time/money are not an issue, go for it! There are so many animals I wish I could rescue, but I just can't do it. I always say if I ever become a millionaire, I'm going to quit my job and start a rescue for all types of animals! Just need to win the lottery first.

DaddyslilDimwit, I like the diamondback terrapin! I'm a Terp! I even live right next to Terps Blvd. If I ever had one, I'd name him Testudo!

His name (Or hers, too young to tell) is Squirt. Someone found him(or her) stuck in a minnow trap and missing a foot, so they brought the litter bugger to me. Just about the size of a Quarter. lol. Living quite happily in a brackish setup with some baby mollies. hehe

1 Chin, 2 indoor cats, 1 doberman, 1 chihuahua, 1 fish, 2 hammies, 3 parakeets, 1 quaker parrot, and I feed up to 10 stray kitties. We'll have a dozen chickens by this time next year. I'm still trying to talk my hubby into a pair of pygmy goats!

I've got two chinchillas, a family of platy fish in an 8 gallon tank, a compost bin of worms and a luna month who I am patiently waiting to emerge from its cocoon!

I guess the chins and fish are the only real pets but the neighbor kids come by so often to see all the pets I start to think of them as family.
