i'm sorry i ask so many quesitons. :( ha.

anyway, i'm making a new c&c cage.

it'll be a double. one 2x3 cage on the bottom, one 2x3 cage on top, plus a stand.

so i'm wondering how i can light and heat the cage on the bottom.

any ideas and suggestions welcome.

thanks. : )

please help!!

also, the one in the bottom cage is blind. so he will only need heating.

A regular light bulb will heat up a closed in cage keep your enough to hedgie warm. The level of heat will depend on the wattage you use. Put it in an area where he will not be able to reach so he does not burn himself.

You could just keep the entire room they are in warm with a space heater. I have 3 cages in my room, and I use a space heater to keep them all warm at the same time. Another option for heat is to research the use of a ceramic heat emitter.

Do some searches, you'll find others asking similar questions about keeping C&C cages warm enough. Here is an example of a multi story C&C using heat emitters: http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77&page=5

i'm so confused. :(

i dont know how to mount the one on the bottom level.

i dont know if i need one or two for each level.

i dont know which emitter/bulbs/thermostats to buy.

im not sure how the whole emitter/thermostat thing works...

someone please put me put of my misery. X(

A heat emitter (the heating source) hooked to a thermostat (a temperature gauge) will allow you to adjust the heat emitter to turn on only when the temperature drops below a certain level. Both of these products are available through most pet stores: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752658

If you have two cages using C&C, I would recommend either staggering the cages and attaching the heat emitter to the top of each cage where the other level does not overlap (very, very securely) or setting it up similarly to the link Kalandra provides above. Just a reminder, heat emitters will only supplement heat, therefore one per cage is sufficient. The room should be kept warm enough through other sources (turning up the heat or having an oil heater, etc.). In terms of light, if you use a staggered set-up one light will illuminate both cages. Even a room light will in most cases be sufficient. I've found that having a light cycle even for a blind hedgie sometimes helps maintain their routine. Some of them seem to still perceive light.
