Last night one of my four chinchillas Master Roshi passed away. I rescued him along with one of our other chinchillas, Mr. Pickle, from a 'farm'. Master Roshi was already very old when we got him, but I am proud to say that we were able to give him a better quality of life in his last months. The farm that we got him from was a place where unwanted animals would be left. They did not know how to properly care for chinchillas, as he was never let out of his cage or given dust baths. He had been at the farm for at least five years and they guessed his age to be somewhere in the tens. In addition, he also suffered from a broken tail and was never able to be held. It makes me sad to think about the life he could have had if he had been taken care of properly from the start. He was a timid but kind chinchilla who loved raisins and hopping about the room. His loss has hit me particularly hard as two days before we had to put down our family rabbit Jackson. Jackson was ten years old and had gone on almost every family vacation with us as well as been in my wedding! I will miss these amazing animals as they were a part of the family and my friends.
